Job Description:Under general supervision, but in accordance with Credit Union policies and procedures, the Network Architect is responsible for aiding the design, implementation and support of the USSFCU's network and telephony systems. This individual performs a wide variety of installation, configuration and upgrading of routers, firewalls, voice systems, data lines, virtual systems and related hardware and software in LAN, WAN and stand-alone environments. This individual provides 2rd tier investigation, diagnostic testing and repair/resolution of system, hardware, software and networks. This position interacts with the entire organization at all locations, periodically requiring extended travel to all Credit Union sites.

The Network Architect assists the Technology Team Leader's, efforts to build a holistic view of the technology infrastructure. This is accomplished by establishing the basic structure of the USSFCU network infrastructure and defining the essential core design features. These elements provide the framework for all that follow and are the hardest to change later. The Network Architect provides definition of the Technology Team Leader's and ultimately USSFCU's vision for what the network needs to be and do, and the paths along which it must be able to evolve, and strives to maintain the integrity of that vision as it evolves during detailed design and implementation.

Essential duties & Responsibilities.

  • Under the direction of the Technology Team Leader and alongside other solution architect(s) provides a consensus based enterprise solution that is scalable, adaptable and in synchronization with USSFCU's needs.
  • Completes the configuration, installation, migration and support of routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless equipment.
  • Completes the configuration, installation, migration and support of defensive / perimeter systems (to include sensors, sniffers, alarms, cameras, and recording equipment).
  • Maintains and supervises the administration of network systems, virtual systems, voice systems, ATM's and performs regular maintenance on related systems.
  • Individually and/or with other solution architect(s) manages assigned projects and program components to deliver services in accordance with established objectives.
  • Responds to inquiries from employees, administrators, service providers, site personnel, outside vendors, etc. to provide technical assistance and support.
  • Provides business continuity planning strategies related to survivability with network and voice traffic.
  • Maintains current documentation for all technologies, to enable troubleshooting and configuration changes.
  • Updates helpdesk logs within 48 hours of completing tasks to ensure accurate and timely time tracking, project management and change management.
  • Has the flexibility to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Complies with all applicable Rules, Regulations and Statues of the NCUA and other appropriate governing bodies to include but not limited to: USSFCU Bylaws, Code of Conduct, Employee Guidebook, Bank Secrecy/Anti-Money Laundering act, Fair Housing Act, and Fair Credit Reporting act.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

    Required Experience:

    Education:Bachelor's degree required


    Palo Alto certification (or equivalent)

    CCIP Cisco BGP/QoS/MPLS Certification or CCDP/CCSP/CCVP/CCNP Cisco certification (Required)

    CISSP certified information systems security professional (Required)

    SDN Certification (Preferred)

    NSX Certification (Preferred)

    Experience: 8 years of experience plus a 4 year degree in information technology (or related) or 12 years of experience plus a degree in a non-technology field required. Experience must include IP router & switch architectures, IP & broadband network architecture, firewalls, wireless technologies, B2B connectivity, MPLS/VPLS telecommunications, deep understanding of high availability requirement and modular design, VOIP technologies. Software Defined Networks (NSX preferred)

    Skills: Excellent problem analysis and solving skills and written / oral communication skills. Advanced Knowledge of IP version 4 and 6 Unicast/Multicast routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, IGMP), TCP/UDP and MPLS (RSVP/LDP), L3 and L2 Based, VoIP endpoints, protocols and signaling (H.323, SIP, TDM), DNS, HSRP.

    Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to work professionally with a variety of staff, management, and vendors.

    Additional: Must hold a valid driver's license with no restrictions and possess reliable transportation.

    The ability to bend, squat, crawl or climb 75-95% of the time, and lift up to 30 pounds.
