Job Description:
Position SummaryTo perform the ophthalmic measurement tests.
Assist physicians in diagnostic, therapeutic and corrective
procedures.Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the
following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be
able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties
may be assigned.Qualifications of Intern Technician (as state
above)Perform Humphrey visual field(HVF) and Goldmann visual
fields(GVF)Knowledge of ophthalmic terminologyPerform tonometry,
visual acuity, pachymetry and lensometryTake patient medical and
ocular historyPerform keratometry, color vision testing and stereo
testingInformation of contact lens insertion and removal(teaching
the patient)Apply eye drops and knowledge of ophthalmic
medicationBasic knowledge of refraction and ability to measure
glasses for patientBasic knowledge of ophthalmic instruments for
minor proceduresPrepare minor procedure setup, consent patient for
procedureAutorefraction and autokeratometryLearn how to administer
and interpret an Amsler Grid testExpert knowledge of Refraction and
RetinoscopyPerform Fundus photos, OCT, HRT, IV Florescein
AngiogramKnowledge of IOL Master CalibrationPerform corneal
topographyOperates, calibrates and maintains ophthalmic instruments
and equipmentMake independent decisions based on different patient
casesQualify for clinical study certificationAll technicians will
be involved in learning and teaching in the department.
QualificationsEducationHigh school diploma or an equivalent
combination of training and experience is necessary.Preferred COA
(Certified Ophthalmic Assistant), required to obtain within one
year of hire.ExperiencePrior experience as an Ophthalmic Technician
