Job Description:
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION: Experience inspecting construction
work activities, with demonstrated increasing responsibility and an
emphasis on underground utilities. Experience may be in the
following sectors: federal, municipal, K-12 school, higher
education, or commercial projects.
MAIN DUTIES:
- Performs field checks of all "red-line" as-built plans to
assure completeness of the plans.
- Performs on-site field compliance inspection, quality assurance
and progress monitoring at various construction projects for
conformance to specifications and codes.
- Performs development of payment applications.
- Ensures that all maintenance and new construction is completed
in accordance with the contract, plans and specifications, approved
shop drawings, approved material lists, and permit requirements.
Communicates with and advises contractors of discrepancies and the
necessary actions to conform to the plans and specifications.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with agency,
contractor and MBP personnel.
- Performs inspections, prepares punchlists, and ensures all
items on the punchlist are completed or corrected by the
contractor.
- Maintains project records including daily diaries documenting
work performed by construction contractors which includes detailed
locations of work, construction workforce, equipment, and materials
records, as well as project photos and inspection reports. Reports
may involve incorporation of basic to moderate algebraic,
geometric, and trigonometric calculations and associated sketches.
Reports are expected to include activities of the team member.
- May track submittals and requests for information. Maintains
project correspondence.
- Performs various administrative duties required of MBP team
members.
- Reviews and/or prepares daily reports for preparation of
entries to the project diary, as-built plans, materials books, and
work books.
- Prepares and checks construction project construction reports
and monthly project estimates. Makes necessary correction and
forwards them to the appropriate parties.
- Monitors project budget and schedules.
- Assist in contractor's monthly evaluations.
- Performs various administrative duties to include but not
limited to: daily timesheet, monthly expense report, and monthly
mileage report.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Obtains training, professional development, and introduction to
marketing including involvement with professional
associations.
- May be required to participate at shortlist interviews.
- May include limited project management responsibilities.
- May be required to coordinate, monitor and manage all
inspection activities on a project.
- Actively participates in company activities, including but not
limited to branch and company meetings.
- Obtains intermediate to advanced training and
certifications.

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE:
- High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and
significant years of experience in engineering, architecture, or a
skilled craft in the construction industry; or an equivalent combin
-ation of training and experience.
- Must possess OSHA 10-hour or OSHA 30-hour certification or
obtain within 3 months of hire.
- Working knowledge of basic mathematics including algebraic,
geometric and trigonometric computations based on field
measurements.
- Construction related training and/or experience that
demonstrates ability to perform duties.
- Must have computer skills and be proficient in the use of
Microsoft Office applications, Email, Internet navigation,
web-based tools and other specialized equipment.
- Proficient knowledge of multiple construction operations.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to independently implement quality control
procedures.
- Ability to understand and track project schedules.
- Ability to collect, analyze and interpret statistical
data.
- Ability to provide technical supervision, leadership and
training to other inspectors.
- Ability to identify potential problems and derive recommended
solutions from past experiences.
- Ability to utilize computers (including Microsoft Office
software) and other specialized equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and contract
specifications.
- Skilled at applying mathematical formulas and engineering
principles to determine field adjustments.
- Ability to communicate inspection issues effectively and
responsibly (verbally and in writing) with internal and external
customers (i.e., contractors, owners, subconsultants and fellow
team members).
- Ability to utilize surveying and measurement tools effectively
for the performance of the inspection duties assigned. May include
survey levels, four-foot levels, measuring tapes, measuring wheels,
straight edges and other tools as necessary.
- Ability to obtain and maintain industry certifications specific
to duties assigned.
- Able to stand and sit as needed on project work sites, climb
ladders, work at heights, and work outdoors in a wide range of
weather conditions.
- Ability to safely navigate construction work sites with uneven
terrain.
