Our Client, St. Albans School is looking for a Facilities Carpenter -From the top of Mount St. Alban, St. Albans School looks up to the Washington National Cathedral and out to the United States Capitol. We are committed to a diversity among students, faculty, and staff that shapes and enriches our shared experiences. - - -As part of the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation (PECF), St. Albans, the Cathedral, the National Cathedral School, and Beauvoir benefit from strong ties and collaboration. -Reporting to the Manager of Facilities, the Facilities Carpenter will perform general maintenance and repair tasks on a daily basis, with a particular emphasis upon lock and hardware repair, re-pinning and key cutting on the campus of St. Albans School. - -Specifically, areas of responsibilities will include:

  • Lock repair and installation; re-pinning and key cutting and maintenance of the system-wide key inventory
  • Respond quickly in the event of an emergency, notify appropriate personnel and follow safety protocol;
  • Inspect and inventory tools and equipment regularly to ensure they are in good condition for proper functioning;
  • Repair of plaster and drywall partitions;
  • Installation of wall-mounted equipment, art, white boards;
  • Repair of furniture and assembly of new classroom- and office- furniture. These skills may require the use of historical methods of preservation and repair;
  • Repair light fixtures and retrofit existing lamps with LED lamps and/or ballasts;
  • Perform the set-up of events, to include chairs, tables, staging, microphones and as necessary, temporary electrical service;
  • Assist with the maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems;
  • Provide on-call support for inclement weather, power outage, or similar scenarios. -The position may perform other related duties as assigned. -The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. -Supervision ExercisedFor the purposes of management, performance assessment, and span of control, the Facilities Carpenter does not directly supervise any employees but works in coordination with the Facilities team.Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in hands-on trades of carpentry, electrical, mechanical and locksmithingEducation: High-school and/or trade-school graduateCertifications: OSHA 10-hour preferred. -Preferred Qualifications:
    • Ability to read and interpret building construction documents;
    • Ability to independently plan, organize, and coordinate multiple tasks;
    • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical, carpentry, and plumbing among other technical skills;
    • Ability to troubleshoot in order to determine exact problems and tackle them accordingly;
    • Excellent ability to communicate system problems to stakeholders for proper understanding;
    • Exhibited good mechanical skills to handle equipment to avoid causing injuries to self and others;
    • Demonstrated strategic skills in short- and long-term planning and facilitation and collaboration;
    • Ability to negotiate, mitigate conflict, and build alliances;
    • Experience managing people and teams to achieve desired results;
    • Creative, innovative, and strategic thinking ability;
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
    • Analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and cross-cultural skills;
    • Ability to work efficiently and quickly under pressure;
    • Sensitivity for and understanding of academic disciplines and issues;
