Personnel Network Cabling Technician Classification: Exempt Qualifications: Required: * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. * 8570 Compliance IAT Level II or higher (Security+, SSCP, or CCNA-Security active certification required). * 10 or more years' experience design of all cable plant types. * Possess Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) current certification. * Excellent documentation skills with a familiarity of site surveys, configuration guides, and pre- and post-install checklists. * Good understanding of infrastructure deployment, from bare metal to configuration and user acceptance testing. * Ability to physically perform cable installation and cable support infrastructure installation. * Ability to work from designs with little supervision. * Experience with systems design and architectural engineering. * Ability to work in a collaborative team environment on fast-paced dynamic projects. Preferred: * Experience installing new site equipment such as end user PCs, phones, and peripherals * Experience providing input to modernization and upgrade/refresh plans. * Experience with new site installations for a government customer. Responsibilities: The network cabling technician is responsible for all aspects of cabling in a new office or while performing existing office infrastructure upgrades. This individual will choose and verify cable pathways; conduct site surveys for clients; assist in designing, creating, and implementing standards and specifications; oversee the progress of cabling projects; maintain all documents related to cabling infrastructure; carry out installation of cable supports and pulling network cable pathways; testing and troubleshooting correctly copper installations; troubleshoot attendant cabling AV issues; install IP devices; terminate phone jacks and distribution frame; and establish and troubleshoot video, audio, and IP networks. Additional responsibilities include: * Manage and maintain exact inventory for parts, tools, and supplies. * Install support structures including racks, ladders, and J-hooks. * Provide network drawings for all cable installations. * Plan for technology deployments and refreshes including cable design documentation. * Run, pull, stop, and splice copper and fiber optic cables such as CAT5, SE, CAT6, low voltage cables, and fiber. * Inventory documentation for all equipment on-site including serial numbers and warranty information. * Provide reporting as required to include daily weekly, and monthly status reports to a program management office. * Work with the quality assurance and system test teams to quickly resolve issues. * Work independently when required to ensure mission is accomplished on time and on budget. * Provide development and processing support for both "Standard" and "Ad hoc" reports.
