Job Description Summary:The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is a unit of the National Research Council, a private, nonprofit institution that is the principal operating agency of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering. The Board's mission is to promote innovation and progress in transportation by stimulating and conducting research, facilitating the dissemination of information, and encouraging the implementation of research results.TRB fulfills this mission through the work of its standing technical committees and task forces addressing all modes and aspects of transportation; publication and dissemination of reports and peer-reviewed technical papers on research findings; administration of two contract research programs; conduct of special studies on transportation policy issues at the request of the U.S. Congress and government agencies; operation of an on-line computerized file of transportation research information; and the hosting of an annual meeting that typically attracts 8,000 transportation professionals from throughout the United States and abroad.The Content Strategist reports to the TRB Director of Communications/Media, working closely with the TRB Communications Team, TRB Staff experts, and other NASEM colleagues. Creates, curates, and publishes engaging promotional material that clearly and succinctly highlight the content-rich resources of the Transportation Research Board, a division of The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Develops metrics to evaluate the success of promotional material and activities.Works with the Director on development and fulfillment of a Content Marketing Strategy. Develops ideas and writes and edits content about TRB's products that will be disseminated through TRB.org, the weekly TRB E-Newsletter, TRB's webinars, and TRB's social-media channels. Creates and maintains an editorial calendar and style guide, and helps develop graphical content.Works closely with TRB's Distance Learning Program Coordinator on the creation, refinement, and maintenance of all aspects of TRB's webinar program.Job Description:ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:Works with the TRB Director of Communications/Media on developing a Content Marketing Strategy.Develops ideas and writes and edits for TRB's content channels, primarily TRB.org, the weekly newsletter, and social-media channels including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.Helps produce and manage TRB's webinar program.Creates and maintains an editorial calendar and style guide.Helps find and produce graphics, photos, and videos.Helps develop content for special projects, such as TRB's Annual Report, TRB's Centennial book, and research reports.Helps track metrics to analyze how content is performing.Related duties and special projects as assigned.JOB SPECIFICATIONSRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Idea generator and implementer.Outgoing, inquisitive personality able to ask the best questions that result in great stories.Ability to find and pull stories out of complicated, nuanced subject matter.Ability to synthesis highly technical research reports and communicate essential findings and conclusions to a variety of audiences.Problem solver with excellent communication and organizational skills.Strategic thinker able to create and successfully implement a long-term, sustainable vision for TRB's content marketing activities.Ability to tell compelling stories through text as well as multimedia, video, and infographics.Ability to operate independently and exercise appreciable latitude for independent judgment, discretion, and action.Ability to work successfully in a team environment.Experience working in complex environments with a high degree of organizational effectiveness.Ability to develop relationships with TRB co-workers and employees in other National Academies' departments through effective, respectful communication.Some knowledge of transportation subject matter is preferred.Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field, or equivalent knowledge.Minimum Experience: Three years of related professional experience.Preferred Experience: Seven years of related professional experience.Required application materials: Cover letter, resume, published writing samples, and any other relevant materials.Physical Capabilities: Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.Required Licenses, Certification or Registration: None.Supervisory Responsibilities/Controls: Reports to Director or other higher level position. General supervision is provided.
