Job Description:

The Specialist understands and promotes the school's mission, vision, objectives, and policies both within and outside the immediate school community. The Specialist is responsible for providing a Montessori classroom instructional program that supports the individual needs of the children in accordance with the school's mission and vision.Specialist Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent, preferred.
  • Minimum of two to three years related experience, preferred.
  • Specialized training, licenses or certifications that are required by state law or regulatory agencies.
  • Proficient in the area of specialty, such as language instruction, outdoor education, music, art, drama, and physical education such as dance, exercise, or yoga.
  • General understanding of Montessori theory, as it impacts the style of lesson giving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Evidence of continuing education and professional growth to include meeting all necessary requirements as established by state law and regulatory agencies.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Within first 30 days of employment must be able to meet all necessary requirements as established by state law and regulatory agencies.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implements the area of specialty utilizing individual, small group, and whole class lessons.
  • Designs and creates a curriculum suitable for the varying ages of the children.
  • Prepares specialist lessons prior to instructional time.
  • Introduce children to language instruction, outdoor education, music, art, drama, and physical education or other area of specialty through singing, playing instruments, performance, movement, and hands-on outdoor adventures.
  • Collaborate with the Montessori Guide to integrate area of specialty with current classroom works.
  • Provide materials and different cultures at age-appropriate levels, developmental planes, and interests.
  • Incorporate all instruction with the Montessori philosophy and curriculum.
  • Introduce activities to create a curiosity and interest in the children.
  • Models and implements positive classroom leadership.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, when appropriate.
  • Other duties, as assigned.Physical Requirements:Must be able to stand, bend, lift and work in an outdoor playground environment for extended periods of time while supervising children.
