BioInteractive program is a leading provider of free classroom
resources and professional development for high school and
undergraduate life science educators. We strive to connect students
to big ideas in biology, promote engagement through science
practices, and instill awe and wonder about the natural world to
transform science education into a creative, interdisciplinary
endeavor that reflects the excitement of real research. As part of
HHMI's BioInteractive summer internship program, you will work
alongside a dedicated team of educators and media creators as they
develop a broad range of classroom resources and tools and provide
professional development and community-building opportunities for
teachers. These in-person positions will report to our headquarters
office in Chevy Chase, MD three out of five days (Tuesday-Thursday)
per week. If selected for an opportunity, interns are responsible
for securing their own housing for the duration of the 10-12 week
internship. What we provide:
- An internship opportunity for two graduate students who will
focus either on online courses and assessment tools or website and
database development.
- Direct mentorship from a senior member of the BioInteractive
team, while working with a diverse team of scientists, content
creators, programmers, educators, and communicators.

areas of science education enhancement, website development and
curation, and technical skills.

your communication, presentation and career development
skills.
- This position will be compensated at a rate of $25.00/hour,
assuming a 40-hour work week. What you'll do: (please apply to one
internship opportunity) Online courses and assessment tools. This
intern will join BioInteractive members in the Assessment and
Learning Design team. This project aims to support the enhancement
of resources for BioInteractive. 1) Canvas course creation - Export
and embed content into the Learning Management System (LMS) and
propose pedagogical ideas to improve the user interface for new
courses. 2) Assessment Builder online database of biology
assessment items - Review and tag HHMI resources to assessment
questions and link the resources on the assessment platform. This
is an excellent opportunity to strengthen your science education
skills in a team-centered, real-world context. Website and database
development. This intern would be part of a team of BioInteractive
members working to research and propose the design and structure of
a database of digital visual assets (mainly photographs and
illustrations), define associated metadata standards and
categories, and develop a streamlined workflow for logging and
categorizing digital assets and metadata. Mentors will provide
internal support in developing the project goals and objectives to
ensure that the database design aligns with the organization's
goals and supports content management efforts. The intern would be
able to further strengthen their computer science and database
design skills in a team-centered, real-world context.
What you bring:
- A master's degree or currently enrolled in a STEM, Science
Education, Actuarial Science, or Library Science M.A. or Ph.D.
program. Undergraduate students with work experience in the areas
of these internships will also be considered.

compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary
