State Legislative AdvisorStarting Salary: $90,000-$98,000Location: Washington, D.C.Travel Requirements: 25-50%Reports To: State Legislative Candidate Support LeadTimeline: Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis with a projected early-Q1 start date.Position Summary314 Action is a grassroots community of over 6 million people working to elect scientists who will use science and facts to address some of our most pressing issues like climate change and health care. -In 2020, we helped flip U.S. Senate seats in Arizona and Colorado by drafting Capt. Mark Kelly and former Gov. John Hickenlooper to successfully run for office. After raising more than $22 million in grassroots donations, 314 Action helped elect nearly 20 scientists at the federal level and over 100 scientists at the state and local levels. Of these scientists, 57% were women, 23% were candidates of color, and 24% were first-time candidates for public office.314 Action and its mission to elect scientists at all levels of government have been featured in pieces by numerous news outlets, including , , , , , and . In its first year, 314 Action's SL&M Program has supported about 400 candidates and developed scalable systems for recruiting, supporting, and electing candidates with STEM backgrounds to offices foundational to impacting our country's most pressing issues, like climate change and abortion access.314 Action is looking for a State Legislative Advisor to join our growing State Legislative Candidate Support Team. The State Legislative Advisor is a key member of the 314 candidate team--guiding candidates from launch to election day to provide support, coaching, and guidance through the campaign and beyond. They will also build relationships with in-state partners and campaign staff to develop strong campaigns that can win and elect more STEM professionals to office.Responsibilities Include

Candidate support and coaching
Serve as the primary 314 point of contact for state legislative races; ensure endorsed candidates have a positive onboarding experience and receive support at all phases of their campaign.Coach campaigns to ensure our endorsed candidates use campaign best practices to run strong programs and make them competitive, Examples include:
Write campaign plansBuild cashflow, fundraising, and field trackersDevelop efficient calltime and digital fundraising operationsThinking through if and when to pollRecruit, interview, and help hire campaign staffKeep 314 CRM up-to-date on campaign progress; provide regular updates on endorsed campaigns.Strategic guidance on organizational support
Identify and recommend creative ways to drive 314 support to endorsed campaignsUse your experience to improve the 314 SL&M program and test moonshot ideas.Partner outreach
Develop and maintain partnerships to build momentum for STEM candidates on-the-ground and further organizational goals.Recruitment and endorsement support
Advise potential STEM candidates who are considering running for office in the future.Work with the Endorsement Associate and other partners as necessary for endorsement rollouts.Preferred Qualifications
Self starter with at least 2 full cycles of political campaign and electoral experience.At least 1 cycle at a state legislative caucus, LEAD organization, or another in-state partner that provides substantive candidate coaching and campaign services work.Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and communicate effectively about their status and outcomesConflict resolution skills and experience giving candidates critical, constructive feedback in a professional manner
Ability to work independently for extended periods of time in a remote environmentAbility to work in a fast paced environment under tight deadlinesA creative problem-solver
