Lifeguard Officer (Seasonal / Waterfront)The St. James
Department of Safety & Rescue is accepting applications for Summer
2023 seasonal Lifeguard Officers.Members of the STJ Department of
Safety & Rescue (DSR) are dedicated to providing a culture of
safety for The St. James and its partners. Our award-winning group
of professional responders strive to maximize lifeguard potential
through encouragement, community, and passion for purposeful
achievement. Essential Duties:
Interact as a member of a
high-performing rescue departmentExercise tact, fitness and good
judgement in daily responsibilities Uphold core values of rescue
readiness, ownership and integrityLead patron education and
community safety presentationsOversee surveillance of water based,
sports, and entertainment activitiesSupervise delivery of basic
emergency medical care to stabilize condition of ill or injured
prior to EMS arrivalKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated altruism and empathy
Skilled in swimming and water confidenceDemonstrated experience as
role model and/or team leader Ability to react quickly and calmly
in emergencies Willingness to learn and develop Physical
requirements:
Physical activities may include
climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking,
standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking,
hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Employee must have the
physical strength, endurance, and ability to swim in deep water,
sit for extended periods of time, and ability to drag one-hundred
and fifty (150) pounds through open water environmentsEmployee must
have the visual acuity to distinguish people and objects at
emergency scenes, both in and out of the water, with eyesight
correctable to 20/40.Employee must have the stamina to work for
extended periods of time in emergency situationsQualifications:
Minimum age of eighteen (18) years at
time of hire Completion of pre-hire fitness assessment and assigned
lifeguard academy Six (6) months customer service experience
preferredSix (6) months of organized team sports preferredOne (1)
year supervisory, year-round lifeguard and/or aquatics focused
