Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS), Space and Launch Division, is seeking a Lead System Security Engineer (Level 4) to support the team in Huntington Beach, CA, El Segundo, CA, or Fairfax, VA. The Space and Launch Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with both commercial and proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

Position Overview:

The Lead System Security Engineer will be a part of a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity development projects. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to lead within proprietary programs being performed for U.S. government customers who are responsible for exciting national security missions. This lead is expected to drive and utilize project management and system engineering processes and standards such as traceability, system verification, system validation, baseline descriptions, configuration management and change control to develop first time quality system that is operable and maintainable, and to establish and maintain customer relationships as well as partnerships with stakeholders, peers, and partners. This role will lead in vital systems security development and integration and test activities to establish product readiness and transitioning for off-site operations.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop, validate, and verify complex lifecycle balanced system security solutions.
  • Designs and definition of the security enforcing functions, controls and security enforcing features of the overall solution and associated subsystems.
  • Leads and implements cybersecurity features on satellite vehicles and implement RMF processes for embedded computing systems.
  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Leads and performs analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system infrastructure.
  • Leads analyses for affordability, safety, reliability (FMEA), maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance, system safety, logistics, supportability and sustainment, and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
  • Supports verification and validation of system requirements with proper flowdown and traceability for hardware infrastructure components defining scope of validation or regression activities required for recertification.
  • Identifies product assets risks, threats, and vulnerabilities in accordance with accepted industry, professional, and government standards, ensuring security design integrity, availability, confidentiality, non-repudiation and contract compliance.
  • Leads, develops, maintains and identifies improvements the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.
  • Knowledgeable in secure manufacturing and Anti-Tamper design. Evaluates remediation recommendations and develops cost to estimate documentation.
  • Employs system security processes, methods, and tools and assures their consistent application. Resolves cross-functional technical issues.
  • Implements appropriate Accreditation and Authorization activities per JSIG, DoD and ICD 503 RMF, NISPOM, or DoD Overprint to the NISPOM as required by customers.
  • Coordinates with systems engineers, system administrators, network and software engineers, test and validation engineers, and program management on security related activities and requirements.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and work under minimal direction.
  • NIST Cybersecurity Framework, NIST 800-53, NIST 800-17, and ISO 27001 governance and compliance standards hands-on experience. Work Authorization:

    This position requires an active/current Top Secret/SCI U.S. Security Clearance with adjudicated CI Poly (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).

    Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
    • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
    • 5 years or more of experience working with Systems Security.
    • DOD 8570 IAT Level 2 Certification.
    • Experience working with cross-functional teams and external customers. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
      • Experience working with cryptography and Anti-Tamper design knowledge.
      • DFARS NIST 800-171 Compliance and Risk Management Framework (RMF).
      • NIST Cybersecurity Framework, NIST 800-53, NIST 800-17, and ISO 27001 governance and compliance standards hands-on experience.
      • Professional Qualifications such as CompTIA Security +/SSCP. Typical Education/Experience:

        Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
