Position Objective:
To provide therapeutic services to patients at Lanham Residential
Crisis Center and to provide direct liaison to the program
supervisor regarding the status of the therapeutic community. This
individual must have a clear understanding of age-related
development issues and chemical dependency. Lanham Residential
Crisis Center provides multiple levels of care; every staff member
has a role in our patients' success. Staff may be asked to work in
other areas of treatment or administration as needed.
Essential Job Duties:

- Able to assess data reflective of the patient's status and
interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each
patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs.
Performs duties according to established standards for age groups
adolescence through geriatric.
- Conducts patient and family interviews and provides referrals
to appropriate level of care and to community resources.
Demonstrates knowledge of ASAM and DSM V criteria relative to the
assessment of patient needs throughout the course of
treatment.
- Provides case management for assigned clients and maintains
competency to evaluate and care for these patients following
program protocols. Maintains accurate and complete chart
documentation regarding patient attitude and progress in the
treatment process following program protocols. Documents attendance
and demonstrated knowledge/understanding of program/meeting
content.
- Performs utilization review as needed according to program
protocols.
- Provides liaison services between patients and other
agencies.
- Communicates, monitors, and ensures patient/family quality and
continuity of care throughout the continuum of treatment, using
established procedures following program protocols.
- Completes family assessments to identify family /relationship
problems and incorporate problem formulation into the
individualized Treatment Plan, using established procedures and
within designated time frames following program protocols.
- Completes intake documentation with applicants, gathering
sufficient history of psychoactive substance use and behavioral
consequences to permit evaluation of history as it relates to
admission criteria. Reviews, monitors and implements admission
criteria for determining appropriateness of patient for entry into
treatment at Lanham Residential Crisist Center. Provides
communication with the nursing, medical and clinical staff
regarding potential admission and new admissions.
- Completes preliminary insurance and financial information data
with applicant and/or family following per program protocol. The
data will be provided to the financial counselor or designee for
verification of benefits for admission by Insurance and/or managed
care companies. Refers applicant/family to the financial counselor
regarding a blending of clinical and financial data to achieve
adequate contract consistent with the approved Lanham Residential
Crisist Center financial counseling guides.
- Attends and participates in program staff meetings,
multidisciplinary clinical staff meetings and in service training.
Participates on committees and quality assessment/improvement
activities
Educational/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in related field required. Currently pursuing a
Masters in behavioral health preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Two years' work experience and direct practice in the area of
behavioral health care to include group and individual
counseling.
- Familiarity with, and agreement to adhere to, established core
competencies, global criteria and ethical standards for Substance
Abuse Counseling.
Required License/Certifications:
- Valid Maryland driver's license and a driving record with no
more than two points.
- Approval as an Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) is
required.
- Certification as a Supervised Counselor or Associate Counselor
Alcohol and Drug (CSC-AD,CAC-AD) or higher from the MD BOP is
required prior to expiration of ADT approval date.
- Current American Health Association Health Care Provider Basic
Life Support (BLS) CPR certification within 30 days of hire
Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:
There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position
will be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.
Physical Demands -
Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of
force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg
controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for
sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is
rated for light work.
