Postdoctoral Fellow - Child Clinical/Pediatric Psychology
The American Psychological Association (APA) accredited George
Mason University (GMU) Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program, is
seeking a Child Clinical/Pediatric Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow
in our training clinic, the GMU Center for Psychological Services.
This is a 1-year full time position, with potential for
renewal.
George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to
the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and
staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich
Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.
About the Program:
George Mason University is the largest, most diverse public
research university in Virginia. The Clinical Psychology Program is
committed to training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to
meet the evolving roles of clinical psychologists in an
evidence-based and antiracist framework. Detailed information about
the program, including its mission statement, can be found at
https://clinical.gmu.edu/. We strongly encourage individuals from
underrepresented minority groups to apply.
Responsibilities:
Join our Center team to provide evidence-based therapy and testing
services to the greater Washington DC community, with a focus on
cultural sensitivity, accessibility, and equity. Our Postdoctoral
Fellow will have an opportunity to gain experience across settings
- both in primary care and a community-based mental health center.
Specifically, the fellow will engage in providing primary care
behavioral health services at one of our partner pediatricians
practices, as well as develop a combination of assessment and
therapy hours at the Center. Should the Fellow be interested,
additional opportunities are also available to supplement their
experience, including helping supervise doctoral students in our
clinical science program, gaining experience in our unique stepped
care model of behavioral health (including learning and offering 3
session of BRIEF intervention) or other community-based projects of
interest.
Specifically, our Fellow will work 10 hours/week in our community
partner pediatrics practice, providing short term, evidence-based
therapy services as well as ongoing support to pediatricians,
nurses and other providers. The Fellow will spend their additional
time working at the GMU Center for Psychological Services providing
evidence-based testing and therapy services to children and
adolescents (depending on preference). The Fellow will complete
approximately two comprehensive assessments per month, with a child
and/or adolescent focus. The remainder of hours will be determined
by the Fellow's interests, and include therapy, BRIEF intervention,
supervision and/or other community-based intervention. There are
additional opportunities to participate in monthly
interdisciplinary case conferences with our psychiatric nurse
practitioner colleagues who collaborate with us to provide sliding
scale psychopharmacological services to our Center clients. This is
a great opportunity to gain hours for licensure and hone both
primary care and specialty care skills. Supervision will be
provided by a minimum of three supervisors, one for primary care
behavioral health, one for testing at the Center, and one for
additional experiences that the Fellow chooses to pursue.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical psychology from an APA-accredited
program by the start date of the position; completion of an
APA-accredited predoctoral internship; and prior experience with
both therapy and testing of children/adolescents.
Note: The search committee will begin reviewing applications June
27, 2022 and continue until the position is filled. Because this
position involves working with minors, university policy requires a
criminal background check prior to employment.
