Position Summary:
The Diversity Program Lead is primarily responsible for leading
selected programs in the Diversity portfolio, including the IGEN
Alliance Backbone team and Delta Phy. This person will also
organize, develop, and improve department programs that advance
education and diversity in the physics community. The position is
also responsible for design and development of other programs that
advance diversity. We are looking for professionals with advanced
knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in STEM
education and organizational change in higher education. If you

The APS has a "remote first" concept that promotes equal treatment

geographic events and meeting attendance as instructed by your

Is This You:
Lead proposal writing and other sponsorship activities
Collaborate with Head to design and implement new initiatives
aligning with the Programs strategic plan in the relevant area
Develop and facilitate impactful activities for participants and
members, drawing on knowledge of scientific academic culture and
environment
Designs new program initiatives independently
Assesses whether overall program goals are being met, recommends
improvements
Creates evaluation criteria
Drafts complete proposals independently
Estimates staff time and budgets for complex projects
Plans, prepares, and facilitates complex meetings
Write and edit articles, brochures, project reports, proposals, and
web-based materials
Develop and implement assessments and evaluations to inform
projects
Makes decisions about matters impacting major program outcomes and
APS reputation
Education: B.A/B.S required. M.A/MS degree required, preferably
relevant to program area.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum of 8 years relevant experience required.
Annual budgets management experience in excess of millions
Supervisory experience required.
Advanced knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in STEM
education and organizational change in higher education.
Exceptional skill at building and maintaining relationships within
the STEM community, particularly individuals in marginalized
communities and those leading DEI initiatives.
Possesses comprehensive skill in creating, managing, and evaluating
projects.
Works well not only with own team but also with teams across and
outside the organization.
Facilitates the development of teams through the stages of team
growth and maturity.
Understands when and how to reward teamwork and celebrate
success.
Presents across all levels of APS in a professional manner, in
terms of both effective individual style and supporting materials
that are engaging, complete, and accurate.
Delivers results consistently and often goes above and
beyond.Possesses fervent desires for continuous supervisory
growth.
Ensures that staff and volunteers foster Education, Diversity, and
Inclusion.
Creates champions and inspires them to lead.
Influences and works collaboratively with project leaders to
advance project goals

Travel: This position could require at times in office work,
various geographic events and meeting attendance as instructed by
your Supervisor.
Work Environment:
Our physical offices are located in Long Island, NY, Washington,
D.C and College Park, MD. We are operational in most US states.
While most duties can be conducted remotely, all positions require
periodic in-person work at the assigned physical location and
periodic travel to other APS locations, meetings and events as
assigned by your Supervisor. The American Physical Society allows
flexible work hours, responsiveness is required however during the
core 9 am to 5 pm Eastern Standard Time workday. The successful
candidate will join a collaborative international organization.
