(IMSG) (www.imsg.com), a science and technical company supporting U.S. Federal Government, located in Rockville, Maryland is currently seeking to hire a Support Scientist to join our team efforts to support NOAA/NESDIS/Center for Satellite Applications Research (STAR). IMSG supports STAR in applied science research and development efforts in a semi-research and semi-operational working environment along with U.S. government scientists, visiting scientists, and other contractors. This task is to support the Global Mosaic of Geostationary Satellite Imagery (GMGSI) project.Responsibilities General Requirements/Duties: Port the GMGSI software to the NESDIS Common Cloud Framework (NCCF) product generation environment.Evaluate and possibly replace the McIDAS code and dependencies with Fortran/C/C++/PythonAdd FCI from MTG-I to mitigate the loss of Meteosat-11Deliver the GMGSI algorithm to the NCCF System for operational implementation Qualifications Qualifications: BS/MS with formal course work in atmospheric science, physics, mathematics or computer programmingKnowledge, experience and demonstrated skills of Fortran, IDL, C++, and Python programming languages.Proficient with FORTRAN, C/C++, IDL and Python, etc.Familiarity with scientific data formats such as HDF, netCDF, and GRIBExperience with shell scriptingExperience with satellite data processingTeam-work oriented; strong communication skills (oral and written)Knowledge of AI and Machine learning techniques Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder to qualify (US Citizen must live in US for 3-5 years prior to application) (please indicate in your cover letter).
