I.M. Systems GroupLocation: US-MD-College ParkJob ID: 2021-1260Category: ScientificOverviewIMSG is looking for a candidate to support NCEP/EMC for the development of atmospheric composition modeling. The candidate's work will involve 1) the development and coupling of the Community Multiscale Air Quality Modeling System (CMAQ) with the Rapid Refresh Forecast System (RRFS) within the NOAA Unified Forecast System (UFS) and, 2) testing, evaluating and improving the RRFS-CMAQ system for air quality and wildfire forecast applications.ResponsibilitiesThe candidate will perform the job duties in an independent, collaborative and initiative way, applying innovative methods for the primary work areas. The candidate will work in a team and collaborate with the community to develop and improve air quality modeling and support transition to operations. QualificationsDemonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas:Required: Knowledge of air quality and earth system modeling. Experience in running numerical models on High Performing Computer (HPC) platforms using parallel tools such as MPI, OpenMP, Slurm, LSF, etc.Is familiar with modern software development practices, particularly version control software such as github. Advanced skills and knowledge of modern programming languages and object-oriented languages, such as FORTRAN90 and Python.Experience working in a UNIX environment with advanced shell scripting languages and familiar with running complex jobs.A MS degree from an accredited institution in Atmospheric Science or other Geophysical Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science or Mathematics; plus 2 years of experience in relevant discipline(s). Desired: Experience with one or more of the CMAQ, RRFS, and UFS systems.Experience in model evaluation and data post-processing.Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a team environment and communicate effectively using good oral and written communication skills.
