OUTREACH COORDINATORThis position is Wednesday - Sunday 8am-4pm. ORGANIZATIONAL INFORMATIONGeorgetown Ministry Center ("GMC"-- -) is a vibrant and growing neighborhood nonprofit that provides services for chronically homeless individuals who often fall through the cracks of the social services system. From our modest beginnings, GMC has grown to include a busy drop-in center, purposeful street outreach, and a winter shelter program that offers a safe haven from the streets. GMC's unique presence in Georgetown makes us an essential part of the net of services to the city's homeless population. GMC draws its dedicated group of supporters and volunteers from the Georgetown residential neighborhood and member congregations. We seek lasting solutions to homelessness one person at a time.POSITION: Outreach CoordinatorOFFICE: GMC Drop-In Center, 1041 Wisconsin Avenue, NW Washington, DCWAGE RATE: $16-$18/hourOPENING DATE: November 9, 2021CLOSING DATE: Until the position is filled.ANTICIPATED START DATE: Mid-December 2021JOB DESCRIPTION AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESAre you looking for a dynamic opportunity to have a meaningful impact on your community? Georgetown Ministry Center ("GMC"-- -) is seeking a community focused Outreach Coordinator to support the community we serve by conducting outreach to a caseload of high-priority unsheltered people experiencing homelessness, administer VI-SPDAT assessments, help individuals obtain vital documents, and act as a liaison for the guest with other service agencies.Canvas the Georgetown neighborhood to build relationships with unhoused neighbors and the local community.Assist individuals experiencing homelessness in Georgetown with applying for identification documents, entitlements, and other benefits.Collaborate with partners in homelessness and core service agencies to ensure that clients without income receive assistance applying for disability benefits as appropriate.Build rapport and utilize motivational interviewing strategies to support vulnerable people with moving through the stages of change.Leverage de-escalation techniques to resolve conflicts with guests.Access the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) to input VI-SPDAT assessments and upload people's identification documents.Write daily outreach notes and enter contact and case notes into HMIS.Attend biweekly staffing meetings with the supervisor and report on ongoing service delivery, outcomes and escalated issues.Participate in the community-wide activities that promote GMC's goals.To actively build and cultivate an inclusive working space of peers, and guests alike.To be culturally aware of and responsive of understanding ways implicit bias, personal identify and power dynamics impact guests, stakeholders, peers, and systems with the understanding to create a homogenous inclusive work environment.Provide week end and back up coverage at GMC's Drop-In Center.Attend training as assigned.All other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Associates degree or some collegeMinimum of two, (2) year of experience working with individuals/families experiencing homelessness, behavioral health, substance abuse or similar issues with documented certificationsStrong work ethic, positive energy and attitude, empathetic outlook, excellent written and verbal communication, and flexibilityCommitment to service and passion for GMC's mission.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred Bachelor's degree in human service-related field.Spanish proficiency preferred.WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 20 lbs.Able to handle physically demanding work- to include but not limited to: standing and/or walking up to 6 hours per day.BENEFITS: GMC is proud to offer comprehensive benefits that support the continued health and wellbeing of our team including: 100% employer-paid medical, dental and vision insurance; 100% employer-paid short-term disability, long term disability and life insurance; employer retirement contributions; generous paid leave and annual professional development funds.GMC values diversity in thought and experience and is committed to a diverse workplace.
