Museum EducatorWashington DC's children deserve a world-class museum to spark their imagination and encourage them to dream. Steps off the National Mall and Pennsylvania Avenue, National Children's Museum celebrates the joy of childhood through science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) exhibits and programs. As a Museum Educator, you will help realize this vision for hundreds of thousands of in-person and virtual visitors who engage with the Museum each year.What you'll do: Museum Educators ensure that daily interactions with Museum visitors are engaging and filled with high-quality learning. As a crucial member of the Exhibits, Education + Experience Team, reporting to the Manager of Education and Outreach, you will help facilitate learning inside the Museum's exhibits and through both virtual and in-person programming. You will work closely with the Operations Team to create a welcoming environment for all visitors, and the External Affairs Team to promote impact and reach of the Museum's education work. This position will work to develop and/or execute the following:

  • Promote a welcoming environment to engage children and families, and maximize learning and enjoyment in the museum;
    • Support the development and facilitation of on-site STEAM-based education programs, including: PreK - 5th grade field trips, family and special group workshops, pop-up experiences, birthday parties, and events within the Museum;
      • Assist in the creation, management, and facilitation of STEAM-based virtual education programs and resources, such as day camps, field trips, and at-home activities;
        • Partner with the External Affairs Team on the content creation of virtual programs and resources, including the development of scripts, filming, appearing, and engaging with children on camera and through live video;
          • Organize, manage, and communicate with educators or parents as needed for Museum education programs;
            • Support the organization and inventory of the Museum's educational supplies and resources;
              • Work closely with Experience Team staff members, and occasionally work within exhibits, to engage visitors in educational content and objectives;
                • Provide guests with information regarding Museum exhibits, programs, and services;
                  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and trainings;
                    • Adhere to Museum policies and procedures;
                      • Serve as Museum ambassador and provide exceptional customer service to guests; and
                        • Other duties as assigned.Hours and Location: Full-time position located at National Children's Museum at 1300 Pennsylvania Ave NW. Must be available to work onsite from 9am to 5pm Wednesday to Sunday. As in person field trips expand, weekend hours may be replaced with week days.What we believe are important experiences and traits for this role:
                          • At least 2+ years experience in education or museum education;
                            • Experience and demonstrated facility with spreadsheet software, (i.e.. Excel, Google, AirTable, Smartsheet, etc.) and/or CRMs, and/or project management software;
                              • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills;
                                • Ability and passion for creating a positive, playful environment for visitors and colleagues;
                                  • Experience in improv, theater, and/or working with children required;
                                    • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple long and short term projects, prioritize work, and meet deadlines;
                                      • Collaborative, creative, and organized with enthusiasm for new projects;
                                        • Insatiable curiosity with an eagerness to learn, willing to ask questions, and apply feedback;
