MITRE is a not-for-profit organization that operates Federally funded research and development centers (FFRDCs) on behalf of the Federal government. We are seeking hands-on leaders in a variety of public policy arenas to include Federal civil rights, social equity, housing, labor, natural resources/the environment, and/or the Federal workforce.

While no one candidate with have expertise in all these areas, MITRE is growing its impact to support the missions aligned with a variety of Federal agencies, to include: the Departments of Housing & Urban Development, Labor, Interior, Agriculture, Education and the Social Security Administration, Office of Personnel Management, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Office of Management & Budget, and General Services Administration.

The right candidate will have expertise in one or more of the aforementioned areas and has demonstrated ability in 1) management/execution of program/policy priorities, 2) the ability to identify and shape emerging legal civil rights related questions and opportunities, 3) the ability to participate as a productive member within a matrixed team, and 4) a track record of high-quality project/product delivery.

The candidate best suited for the position will also be able to demonstrate executive level skills developing and maintaining relationships with partners, both internal and external to the Federal government. The ideal candidate will thrive in a highly dynamic environment, easily identifying, developing and performing independent work, as well as working comfortably and effectively in team settings.

This position requires the thought leader to develop, shape, and execute projects and innovative opportunities by providing both subject matter expertise and legal and technical support. The candidate will be responsible for managing, implementing, and promoting project activities; identifying and responding to emerging or long-standing public policy concerns; Federal agency needs; and assessing policies and programs with concrete plans to implement change. The candidate will also identify necessary technical expertise across MITRE needed to shape, develop, and analyze the agency/government-wide problem, and lead the MITRE team to execute the work.

As a member of MITRE's Social Services & Government Transformation Division, the successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to our sponsors focusing on ensuring the effective and efficient administration of Federal programs. The position provides an exciting leadership opportunity to make a substantive impact on a diverse array of public policy areas.

Required Qualifications (Required)

Substantial relevant professional experience in 3 or more of the following:

  • Strategic Planning

  • Management & Administration of Federal Program(s)

  • Public Policy

  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and delivering innovative approaches to conveying information in a manner that can drive a decision.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills - discretion, diplomacy, and tact.

Preferred Qualifications (Optional):

  • Master's Degree, Law Degree or PHD.

  • Candidates who have experience with the Department of Housing & Urban Development, Department of Labor, Department of Interior, Department of Agriculture, Department of Education, Social Security Administration, Office of Personnel Management, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Office of Management & Budget, and/or General Services Administration.

  • Experience working with high-level sponsor executives.

  • Bachelor's degree
