Overview

LMI seeks an experienced person to provide facilities architectural planning services in support of the federal government. The Architectural Planner will provide facilities and architecture planning support to include development and enforcement of design standards, development of facility strategies and reviews of designs during the planning, design, and construction phases of major capital projects. Join our team of collaborative self-starters focused on delivering practical and efficient solutions to help DHS keep our nation safe while supporting the facilitation of legitimate trade and travel.

The candidate shall have strong communication skills, a demonstrated ability to deliver "innovative solutions" and possess the skill of "creative problem solving".

Responsibilities

  • Perform and review portfolio planning including facility assessments, alternatives analysis, space programming and site analyses
  • Initiate project development through the gathering of operational requirements and preparing associated project scopes and budgets
  • Work closely with staff to support facility planning efforts across the organization, including technical, financial and operational aspects
  • Prepare and manage planning artifacts including space programs, requirements documentation, cost estimates, schedules, reports and briefings
  • Review design plans or work with designers to make sure agency and other regulations, codes, directives and standards are met
  • During construction, address any issues regarding required agency and other regulations, codes, directives and standards and/or design and construction industry standards
  • Liaise with service providing partners including but not limited to United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) or General Services Administration (GSA)
  • Respond to any design or construction-related issues at completed facilities
  • Support the performance of Facility Condition Assessments and Facility Assessments aimed at determining repair and upgrade requirements of existing facilities
  • Provide input on appropriate standards, and guidelines, as well as interpretation and compliance for building code and regulations
  • Serve as a Project Manager on special projects as needed
  • Monitor project budget and schedule

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or related engineering discipline
  • Eight (8) years of relevant, documented experience (such as reported to National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB)) in the areas of facility development, planning and design, building construction, or associated realms
  • Ability to read and interpret building design drawings
  • Ability to determine special building requirements
  • Ability to communicate clearly with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Knowledge of construction standards and codes
  • Knowledge of facility planning including urban planning requirements, facility master planning, architectural programming, project feasibility analysis and methods of procurement and project delivery
  • Knowledge of building design including civil design, site and landscape design, architectural design, interior design, signage, structural design, integration of mechanical and plumbing systems, integration of electrical systems, security design, integration of data, communications systems, sustainable design practices, accessibility design, historic preservation, general life safety and fire prevention design and other relevant systems and subjects of design impacting the facility
  • Knowledge of project management principles such as scheduling, budget, risk analysis, financial management and project monitoring
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (mainly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Ability to pass a government background investigation, including financial, criminal, residential, educational, foreign affiliation, prohibited substance use, and employment verifications; active U.S. Customs and Border Protection background investigation preferred. Please note that only U.S. citizens are eligible for a suitability determination.

Preferred:

  • Architectural or engineering registration/certification
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Sustainable Practices - LEED or Green Globes certification
  • Experience supporting US federal government design standards, specifically within DHS or CBP
  • Computer-aided design (CAD) software experience
