These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital#s philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards Education, Experience, and License Requirements High school graduate or equivalent GED. Completion of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant Program required. Phlebotomy training/certification preferred.## Two years of experience in a health care setting, preferably in an outpatient setting. One-year supervisory experience preferred. Certification by an Accredited Professional Organization, i.e. National Healthcareer Association (NHA), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or American Medical Technologists (AMT) required. CPR certification required. Job Duties and Responsibilities Initiates Clinical office operations and assists physicians with a wide range of healthcare services and procedures. Provides daily supervision of the support staff for the clinical area to ensure the smooth operation of the office. Coordinates workflow establishes schedules in the clinical area.# Ensures smooth and effective services.# Provides backup coverage as necessary. Enters clinical information into the appropriate patient chart including, but not limited to, vitals, consents, patient reported pain score, learning needs and barriers, medications, allergies, history, as required and/or directed.## Assists physicians, physician extenders and nurses with procedures and treatments as directed. Accompanies patient to other areas as directed and assists in meeting patients# needs for comfort and hygiene.# Draws blood. Prepared and ready to assist physicians and nurses with procedures as directed. Labels and maintains proper storage for specimens and tests. Delivers test and obtains results. Laboratory specimens are properly prepared, labeled and stored. Performs quality control functions for assigned area, as directed. Reviews medical records for accuracy and completeness, ensuring entries are signed and legible. Performs follow-up calls to patients regarding post-visit/post-procedure status. Records and documents all appropriate information in the appropriate IT systems and communicates to physician and/or nurse. Assists in scheduling of tests, appointments as directed. Schedules patients for diagnostic tests, keeps record of the same, and instructs patients on any preparation necessary for their procedures both verbally and by giving appropriate patient information sheets as appropriate. Performs other duties such as calling in prescriptions, assisting patients in making appointments with consulting physicians and arranging emergent hospital admissions from the clinic setting. Adhering to GPG and departmental policies and procedures, will access a patient#s medical record / electronic health record (MR/EHR), for work related activities only, to complete proper patient documentation in the health record or to view needed information in the patient chart as necessitated by job role or function.# Adheres to most current workflows or processes developed within GPG or specific Practice. Performs personnel management functions for the clinical area to include, but not limited to interviewing, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and evaluating employees as delegated by or with Supervisor#s approval. Maintains established department policies and procedures; attends required meetings and participates on committees as requested. Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area.   • Minimum Qualifications
  • CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN TO AN APPROPRIATE COMBINATION OF EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE.

  • Education/Training
  • High school graduate or equivalent GED. Completion of a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant Program required. Phlebotomy training/certification preferred.

  • Experience
  • Two years of experience in a health care setting, preferably in an outpatient setting. One year supervisory experience preferred.

  • License/Certification/Registration
  • Certification by an Accredited Professional Organization, i.e. National Healthcareer Association (NHA), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or American Medical Technologists (AMT) required. If not certified/registered at the date of hire must do so within six months of hire date. CPR certification required.

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment. Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and as directed. Skill in taking vital signs maintaining records and recording results. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patient, medical staff and the public. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to read, understand and respond to detailed oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate clearly.
