About the Center on Regulation and Markets: The Center on Regulation and Markets (CRM) seeks to improve the quality and efficiency of economic regulations and regulatory policy. The Center produces expert evidence-based original papers, timely reports and analysis, and holds public and private convenings on regulatory topics both pressing and those likely to shape the future, with the aim of reaching academics, policy makers who set the regulatory agenda, and the regulatory agencies who implement it. The Center has traditionally had two areas of focus, 1) the economic effects of regulation, and 2) classical regulatory analysis, including cost benefit analysis and the examination and evaluation of the federal regulatory process and federal rules and legislation. Please note: This--position is based in Brookings' Washington, DC office.--In response to COVID-19, Brookings staff are-- temporarily teleworking.-- The person hired for this position must be willing to move to or currently reside in Washington DC, Maryland, or Northern Virginia by their date of hire.-- Responsibilities Ready to contribute to Brookings success? The Center Coordinator supports the administrative needs, including scheduling, travel, and project coordination, for scholars as well as other center staff in the Center on Regulation and Markets. Responsibilities include organizing internal and external meetings, management of senior staff calendars and travel schedules, conference planning, report layout, as well as project and publication assistance. Administrative Support (40%)

  • Provide administrative support for center scholars as assigned; duties include but are not limited to: manage calendars, schedule appointments, make domestic and international travel arrangements, prepare itineraries, arrange for reimbursement, and maintain records of project-related travel expenses and billing;-- manage flow of information to scholars and use judgement to identify opportunities, a nticipate senior staff needs, suggest solutions, and provide relevant information regarding meeting requirements.
  • Receive and disseminate information related to projects; respond to inquiries from the public; receive staff and visitors.
  • Organize and maintain files, both written and electronic. Manage sensitive information and materials with discretion.
  • Manage and maintain center calendars; track deliverables and project timelines; manage and communicate deadlines to center staff.
  • Support special projects, day-to-day logistics, and overall CRM related items. Communications Support (30%)
    • Layout, format, proofread papers, briefs, publications, projects and other written materials.
    • Edit incoming drafts for style and clarity as assigned by senior staff.
    • Under supervision of senior staff, coordinate with external authors, including receiving outlines and drafts, communicating deadlines, and receiving and filing conflict of interest disclosures and contracts.
    • Draft text for website, newsletters, social media, and other digital outreach.
    • Post content on Brookings web site, in coordination with ES communications team.
    • Design and style graphics, charts and tables for publications in accordance with standard Brookings Style.
    • Help track impact and coverage of ES research and activities, collecting information from scholars and senior staff and maintaining databases. Event and Meeting Planning (15%)
      • Working with Project Manager and Senior Events Manager, assist event organization, including planning and drafting agendas and invitations.
      • Schedule and coordinate meetings, video conferences, and teleconferences; track attendance, maintain meeting files and other details for regular external and internal meetings and conference calls with multiple high-level participants.
      • Serve as liaison to relevant internal and external organizations such as co-sponsors and hotel/catering vendors.
      • Coordinate and oversee set up and logistics during events and help resolve any problems that may arise.
      • Conduct post-event actions, including travel expense reimbursement and thank you notes.
      • Assist with other event planning activities related to CRM as needed. Center Content (15%)
        • Review, copyedit, and prepare for posting center content such as blog posts, summaries of scholarly papers, and publications.
        • Maintain detailed records of project activities, including publications, meetings, media contacts, boards, bios and CVs; work with communications team to ensure that public-facing materials are updated, accurate, and in compliance with conflict of interest disclosures.
        • Assist in gathering information for and drafting of grant reports and proposals, as needed. Qualifications Ready to make an impact? In this role, you will support Brookings values of collegiality, respect, inclusion, diversity and community, and bring the following qualifications: Education/Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree required. Minimum two years of relevant work experience required. Experience providing scheduling and special assistance to executive level staff of an organization/office preferred. Conference planning experience preferred. Orientation to administration as a professional field preferred. Work experience in a fast-paced work environment and a background in a research or academic setting are strongly preferred. Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. Knowledge/Skills Requirements: Uses judgment to identify opportunities and anticipate problems, suggest solutions. Excellent organizational, writing and verbal communication skills , and people skills. Ability to work independently and with a team; ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision; initiative, poise, mature judgment and attention to detail. Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and manage competing demands. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. Demonstrated ability to interact diplomatically and professionally with high-level officials and their designees with confidence. Interest in economics, public policy, and social science preferred. Basic HTML/web publishing experience; familiarity with WordPress, InDesign, and other publishing tools preferred. Comfort with learning new software/tools preferred.
