Data Analysis & Technical Research Washington, DC, United States Job Summary

In this role, you will play a major role in helping advance NUMO's goal of becoming a hub for research related to new mobility with the objective of ensuring our future cities are equitable, sustainable and joyful for all. You will be part of NUMO's research workstream, and you will have the opportunity to directly engage with a wide range of public and private stakeholders and decisionmakers that are working at the forefront of understanding and solving the challenges created by the advent of new mobility services such as shared bikes and scooters, ride-hailing, autonomous vehicles, drones and electric vehicles.

You will also have the opportunity to work on WRI's Electric School Bus Initiative, where you will manage the research component that is tasked with informing the work of the initiative, including understanding the impacts of electrifying school fleets, selecting areas of focus for our technical assistance teams, and creating an outward facing on-line hub to empower action by others. Ideally, you will have an understanding and experience carrying out research projects related to new mobility.

This position is remote due to Covid-19, but you will be based at WRI's office in Washington, DC once restrictions have lifted.

Job Responsibilities

NUMO research

  • Lead and support multiple research projects related to new mobility services, on topics such as: understanding the behavior of new mobility users, quantifying the impacts of these services, analyzing the impact that the covid pandemic has had on travel patterns of these users, amongst others
  • Propose new areas of research
  • Engage with, and maintain relationships with NUMO allies including research partners, cities, and private companies
  • Write communication pieces, including blog posts and policy briefs, to showcase and inform stakeholders about the research that NUMO and its allies are carrying out
  • Be an active member of the NUMO team and support other areas of our work, including pilot projects in cities such as Detroit, Bogota, Pittsburgh, and DC. Electric School Bus Initiative
  • Manage the research component of our Electric School Bus Initiative
  • Work with other members of the initiative to identify areas of research
  • Work with junior staff to carry out research that supports the initiative
  • Lead the creation of our outward-facing research hub with the goal of empowering stakeholders such as states or school districts, to take action on electrifying their fleets
  • Work with the Technical Assistance manager to identify topics of interest to states and school districts and develop technical materials and capacity within the Initiative's team General management
  • Manage multiple aspects of projects including staffing and other resources
  • Manage contractors and partner organizations
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts
  • Organize internal and external meetings, workshops, conferences, and other dissemination activitiesJob Qualifications
    • Master's degree in urban planning, transportation, economics, engineering, or a related field (or a bachelor's degree with two years of additional relevant work experience)
    • Minimum of 3 years of relevant, full-time work experience
    • Experience working on research topics related to new mobility including, but not limited to their equity or sustainability impacts, policy implications, privacy concerns, and others
    • Demonstrated ability to engage with large groups of diverse stakeholders on complex technical topics
    • Demonstrated ability to work well in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams, manage multiple priorities, and work under tight deadlines
    • Collaborative problem solver who can take initiative
    • Excellent written communication skills
    • Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner
    • Detail-oriented, organized, and independent thinker Fluent in English

      Potential Salary:--$59,000-----$77,000.--Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
