              Program Overview

Climate impacts are being felt all around the world and on track to get much worse. Every year of delay and every tenth of a degree matters. Addressing climate change requires dramatic changes, which will not happen on their own. That's where the World Resources Institute's Global Climate Program comes in. Our role is to help businesses, policymakers and civil society at the local, national and international levels advance the deep structural shifts necessary to address climate change. We focus on ensuring near-term decisions align with the long-term goals of all people benefitting from thriving economies in a safer world. The National Climate Action Initiative focuses on helping countries achieve their Nationally Determined Commitments (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, and drive them to adopt the even more ambitious emissions reductions targets needed to avoid the worst impacts of global climate change. This is accomplished both by providing in-country technical and financial support to existing efforts, and to developing global tools and methodologies that can catalyze national climate mitigation impacts. Specific projects include Long-Term Strategies, NDC Enhancement, NDC Implementation, and the New Climate Economy. The work is closely coordinated with, but independent from, the global NDC Partnership consortium.
