Virginia ML Platform Design Director This role is part of our Data
Experience Design team where we navigate the flood of information
to surface understanding, reveal human insights and illuminate
hidden opportunities. Our vision is to create a better relationship
with data. To make data work for people instead of people work for
data—to serve better understanding from data. We will serve the
end-to-end lifecycle of data—deeply understanding how people USE
data and how we can enhance that workflow.
As a Design Director, you will be working with UX designers,
product managers, business analysts and technology developers to
design experiences for data scientists and analysts at Capital One.
As someone that lives at the intersection of design and business
while constantly anchoring on the needs of the customer you will
represent a different way of working – human-centered and iterative
– by collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to take on our
toughest business challenges and define compelling solutions.
As a Design Director on this team, you will:
Coach your design team through discovery, synthesis, ideation,
design, and testing of new products and features.
Establish and manage relationships with executive stakeholders
and product, technology, and data partners.
Work closely with product leadership to assure the user
experience is a primary driver of the long term roadmap and
translate the larger strategy to the design team to bring to life
within their workstreams.
Use visual and tangible storytelling to share your discoveries,
influence stakeholders and create energy around an idea or an

Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
At least 7 years of experience with human-centered design
At least 7 years of experience with UX design
At least 7 years of experience with product design
Master’s Degree in design or business
7+ years of experience with design thinking tools and
5+ years experience managing teams of designers
Experience working with data
9+ years of experience with a digital product & services
9+ years of experience in design strategy, UX design,
communication design, or industrial design
