Our law firm is seeking a family attorney who can assist our clients in navigating the sensitive legal issues of family law, including child custody, child abuse, and domestic violence. Responsibilities:

--- Collaborate with senior partners and paralegals to effectively move files through the civil litigation process
--- Attend court proceedings as needed to represent clients
--- Divide marital assets, including real estate, when necessary during divorce proceedings
--- Prepare legal documents such as legal pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases
--- Keep client files properly organized and up to date
--- Develop a strategic approach and provide leadership and direction to paralegals and legal assistants
--- Manage full case-handling responsibilities from inception through resolution
--- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on issues relating to ongoing or potential cases
--- Draft and review initial pleadings, motions, briefs, and other pleadings
--- Appear in Court to represent clients
--- Prepare clients and cases for trial
--- Interact with clients and work with experts
--- Cultivate relationships with the firm's existing and future clients

Qualifications:

--- Bachelor's degree with a legal background and J.D. degree are required
--- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, especially in highly stressful and emotional situations
--- Licensed to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia
--- Substantial experience at a Law firm working on Family Law (Divorce, Custody, Child Support, Modifications) for at least 10 years (required; this is non-negotiable)
--- At least 10 years of courtroom litigation experience (non-negotiable)
--- Excellent writing and oral communication skills
--- Proficiency in analyzing and summarizing complicated legal documents and suggesting alterations to those documents
--- Attention to detail and strong analytical skills
--- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a TEAM
--- Extensive experience in courtroom litigation and trial advocacy including trial preparation and readiness
--- Ability to anticipate and mitigate potential legal problems within the law firm or for a client while developing strategies to avoid costly litigation and reduce potential areas of risk
--- Experience in mentoring and overseeing junior associates work for needed guidance on issues and ensure work product is up to par
