of America Req #1356 Tuesday, May 23, 2023 THE ROLE: This position
is situated within the Legal Education and Advocacy Program (LEAP)
of Refugee and Immigrant Services. This position will be based in
SeaTac WA. The ideal candidate will provide legal education,
advocacy and support services to individuals who are seeking relief
while in removal proceedings. The candidate will provide
consultation to respondents in removal proceedings and other
attorneys and DOJ accredited employees on more complex legal and
immigration matters. The candidate will also work closely with the
Program Supervisor on promise delivery and contractual reporting to
funders. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: --- Act as advocate for client's
needs with other legal service providers, attorneys, foreign
consulates/embassies, and other government offices --- Responsible
to design, develop and maintain pro se / self-help workshop
materials, KYR, outreach material, etc. in consultation with
Program Supervisor. --- Provide group information session (GIS) to
respondents in removal proceeding or individual session (IS) who
are non-represented. --- Provide Multi-Family Group Orientations at
the designated sites to family groups with cases scheduled on EOIR
Dedicated Dockets. --- Provide Single-Family Group Orientations to
those who do not have legal representations. --- Assist in
developing a Pro Bono Referral Plan to promote and facilitate pro
bono representation for unrepresented respondents. --- Training pro
bono attorneys in program services and best practices. --- Work
collaboratively with governmental agencies, and other private
non-profit agencies and pro bono attorneys who regularly represent
respondents in immigration removal and other proceedings before
EOIR. --- Handle complex immigration cases, i.e. asylum, stay of
deportation, and represent clients before immigration judge when
and if needed. --- Work closely with the Program Supervisor, DOJ
accredited reps and Director of Refugee and Immigrant programs for
program success and structure to meet contractual requirements. ---
Assist clients with correspondence to legal and immigration
services and other relevant agencies --- Maintain accurate files
and detailed case notes --- Model and encourage direct,
professional communication among staff members and facilitate
development of a positive staff support network --- Demonstrate
awareness and sensitivity in the delivery of client services as it
relates to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the
population served --- Performed other duties requested and/or as
identified in program operation plan (POP). JOB COMPLEXITY: This
position handles complex immigration matters and will also require
the individual to stay current on immigration laws and assist the
agency in developing new policies in order to comply.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual
must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The
requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge,
skill, and/or ability required. --- JD degree --- Admission to WA
or any State bar in the US, and in good standing --- Demonstrate
commitment to advancing and defending immigrant rights --- Strong
client communication skills, including an ability to provide
survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally competent legal
assistance --- Strong writing, communication, interpersonal, and
organizational skills --- Conversational/Fluency in written and
spoken Spanish --- Strong ability to work independently, as well in
a team setting --- Excellent time management and attention to
deadlines --- Strong ability to multitask and handle a demanding,
varied caseload EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Must have a law degree
from an accredited law school and have been certified to practice
law in the state of Washington which will mean passing a state bar
exam.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to write memos and other
basic correspondence. Ability to effectively present information
and respond to questions from employees, clients, and the general
public. Must have excellent communication skills with the ability
to read, write, and speak English. Additional language skills is
preferred but not required. BENEFITS: We offer a full benefits
