SALARY RANGE: $108,996 - $112,628
This range is within the Legal Service salary schedule from Grade
13 Step 1 to Step 2. The salary range is based on a multitude of
factors including applicable rules, regulations and guidelines.

NTE)
COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UNIT: This position is not in the collective
bargaining unit.
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: Open to the Public
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The District of Columbia Office of the
Attorney General seeks a 13-month term Trial Attorney to join its
Personnel and Labor Relations Section (PLRS) to primarily represent
the Office of the State Superintendent of Education in
administrative matters before the Office of Employee Appeals,
Office of Administrative Hearings, Office of Human Rights, and the
U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The candidate will
also provide appellate representation of these matters before the
Office of Employee Appeals Board, various Federal Mediation and
Conciliation Service arbitrators, the Public Employee Relations
Board, and the District of Columbia Superior Court. Duties include
all aspects of civil litigation, i.e., discovery, motions practice,
brief writing, and evidentiary hearings.
The Assistant Attorney General is responsible for:
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have at four years of relevant
litigation experience and excellent oral and written communication
skills. Personnel experience is preferred. In addition, candidates
must have one (1) year of Specialized Experience in other HR fields
noted above.
Candidates must possess excellent legal research and writing skills
and strong interpersonal skills. Candidates must have experience
handling a large volume of cases and possess the ability to work
under pressure without sacrificing the quality of work. The
successful candidate should be a self-starter with the ability to
work with a high degree of independence.
ELIGIBILITY: The successful candidate must have a law degree and be
an active member in good standing of the bar of any jurisdiction.
If not a member of the District of Columbia Bar, the candidate must
be sworn into the District of Columbia Bar within 360 days of
his/her initial appointment with the Office of the Attorney General
for the District of Columbia.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION: A substitution of education for required
experience will be allowed as defined in OPM's Qualification
Standards. However, to receive credit, applicants must submit
official proof of educational attainment at the time of
application.
TIME-IN-GRADE RESTRICTIONS: Time in grade restrictions must be met
by the closing date of this vacancy announcement.

GENERAL SUITABITLY SCREENING: The selected candidate will be

PRIORITY CONSIDERATION: Displaced Employee Priority Placement:
Candidates who are eligible for the District of Columbia's
Displaced Employee Program (DEP) and Agency Reemployment Priority
Placement Program (ARPP) will be given priority consideration for
this position if found qualified.
EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS: Selectee will be eligible for health and life
insurance, annual (vacation) and sick leave and will be covered
under the District of Columbia government's retirement plan.
However, if selectee was previously employed in the District of
Columbia's government under an appointment for which he/she was
eligible for Civil Service Retirement (CSR), contributions to CSR
will resume upon re-employment.
