Manager - Learning Manager, Instructional Design (Hybrid)
Capital One’s Learning & Knowledge team is seeking a dynamic
manager to lead a team of Instructional Designers that design a
diverse set of learning experiences to support team members across
various disciplines. This role will partner closely with business
leaders and internal stakeholders to create custom learning
strategies. They will empower their team to analyze learning needs,
design and develop blended and self-guided learning solutions,
measure and report on learning effectiveness, and support the
larger Instructional Design team to build the future of learning.

our stakeholders. The ideal candidate for this role is a/an: Expert
in Adult Learning: Has expertise in adult learning theory,
cognitive science, and other evidence-based learning fields. Brings
a passion for staying on top of the latest research developments,
tools, and technologies in the field and can use these insights to
drive a strategic vision for their team. Strategic, Consultative
Learning Partner: Cultivates strong relationships in a matrixed
environment with senior leaders, business partners, and L&D
peers. Acts as a trusted advisor to foster collaboration and drive
strategic alignment on learning solutions. Thinks holistically and
solves problems systemically, balancing long-term learning vision
for employee performance with driving key business outcomes.
Experienced People Manager: Has a proven track record of leading
and developing teams of instructional designers and creative
specialists. Passionate about coaching and mentoring direct reports
to build best-in-class learning experiences, as well as fostering
and contributing to an overarching culture of continuous
improvement. Data-driven Problem Solver: Has high business acumen
and learning agility. Uses feedback, data, industry trends, and
insights to distill problem statements and drive decisions that
align to business needs. Can work backwards from business problems
and performance goals to advance aligned and impactful learning
solutions. This is a visible role with the ability to impact change
across the organization and drive how learning is built and
delivered at Capital One. Core responsibilities include: Adult
Learning Leadership Collaborate with other ID and learning leaders
to establish processes, norms, and best practices that support
learning design excellence, effective capacity planning, workload
delegation, and resource prioritization. Keep abreast of learning
tech and design trends, empowering your team to craft innovative,
high quality learning solutions that accommodate diverse learning
needs and resonate with learners. Strategic Consultation &
Partnership Consult and partner with L&D peers, key business
stakeholders, and Lines of Business leaders to strategize an annual
learning agenda and build innovative performance solutions.
Establish and maintain relationships with business partners and
stakeholders, serving as a trusted advisor to build learning
solutions that balance urgency with quality and ensure team members
are well prepared to perform their job and deliver for our
customers. Be in sync with business cycles and dynamics to
anticipate learning needs, make informed decisions, and provide
proactive recommendations that help leaders plan for what their
workforce and performance needs will be in the current and future
state. Work with other learning leaders to identify opportunities
for team efficiencies throughout the learning design process or by
leveraging existing materials. People Management Run a well-managed
team to deliver exceptional learning experiences with consideration
for project scope, timelines, and business constraints. Coach and
develop a team to be high performing learning professionals that
follow quality standards, elevate the standard for learning
solutions, and deliver results at the speed of business.
Data-driven Problem Solving Leverage data, business insights,
industry trends, and input from stakeholders to ask strategic
questions and recommend future learning strategies. Use structured
problem solving techniques to ensure we are solving the right
learning challenges, at the right time, with the right solutions.
Distill and translate learning insights into clear,
business-relevant narratives and impactful storytelling. Here is
what you will need to be successful: Exceptional consultative and
stakeholder engagement skills to understand business needs,
facilitate robust discussions, make recommendations to internal
clients, and translate data and insights into effective learning
solutions. Demonstrated history of leading and managing a team of
instructional designers and creative specialists, building a vision
and roadmap for the team. Extensive expertise of adult learning
best practice and innovations to inform the future of learning at
Capital One. High-level of initiative, ownership, problem solving,
and a solutions-oriented mindset. Demonstrated success
collaborating with other L&D professionals to optimize
processes, drive efficiencies, and adopt best practices and
industry standards. Strong written and verbal communication, with
the ability to influence stakeholders, peers, and associates at all
levels. Ability to manage ambiguity, lead through change, and
deliver in a fast paced, matrixed environment. Location: This role
is hybrid, where you will be expected to spend at least 3 days per
week working in the office. Basic Qualifications : High School
Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification At least 5 years of
people leadership experience At least 3 years of experience in
instructional design or instructional development At least 3 years
of experience in instructional design methodology (such as ADDIE,
SAM, AGILE, etc.) At least 2 years of experience using Microsoft
Office or Google Suite Preferred Qualifications : Bachelor’s degree
6 years of people leadership experience managing a group of
learning professionals 4 years of experience in instructional
design or instructional development 4 years of experience in
instructional design methodology (such as ADDIE, SAM, AGILE, etc.)

full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by
location. Please note that this salary information is solely for
candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and
refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of
this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based
upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
Chicago, IL: $122,100 - $139,400 for Learning Manager McLean, VA:
$134,400 - $153,300 for Learning Manager Plano, TX: $122,100 -
$139,400 for Learning Manager Richmond, VA: $122,100 - $139,400 for
Learning Manager Candidates hired to work in other locations will
be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the
actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the
time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer
letter. This role is also eligible to earn performance based
incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or
long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or
