Job SummarySupervises the clinical operations and patient care at a PromptCare facility in collaboration with the physician dyad partner. Supervises, interviews, hires, evaluates, and terminates if necessary, clinical staff. Handles employee and patient grievances. Provides direct patient care as needed. Triages patients for priority of care and efficiency of patient flow. Implements and maintains operational policies and procedures in consultation with Providers, Team Coordinators, Managers, Directors of Operations, or the Senior Director of Nursing.

Supervises obtaining and maintaining a necessary inventory of equipment and supplies needed to implement policies and procedures and meet safe staff and patient needs. This position documents as appropriate in the medical records and supports optimal patient flow. Supervises education of staff for on-boarding of new programs. Supervises maintenance of all competencies, licenses, and certifications of staff. Maintains environment and patient care consistent with legal and/or regulatory standards.   • EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree required.

  • EXPERIENCE: 3 years of progressively more responsible job-related nursing and ER or Urgent Care experience. Experience in solving patient and staff problems. Charge Nurse experience preferred.

  • LICENSE/CERT/REG: CPR certification required. RN license in state working is required.

  • SKILLS: Excellent customer service/patient interaction skills; ability to use computers and the electronic medical record. Ability to function in a variable urgent care clinical setting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to clearly and effectively educate patients and their families as well as staff that have variable abilities to learn. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to multitask. Ability to maintain a work place workload. Ability to follow verbal and written instruction. High level problem solving skills as well as independent judgment skills relating to clinical care, quality and safety of patients and employees, policies, and procedures. Able to delegate with responsible and good judgment.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    • Answers patient questions and provides education and materials/referrals as appropriate.

    • Assists with interviews, hires, evaluates performance, promotes, and disciplines staff in conjunction with the appropriate leader.

    • Assures appropriate triage of incoming patients. Assesses acuity of patient conditions and responds appropriately to the concerns and expedites need to be seen when appropriate. Notifies providers when appropriate.

    • Conducts meetings including: daily huddles, regular staff meetings, training classes for safety, infection control, OSHA, EMR, CPR, TJC, safety, compliance and others as required. Participates in community outreach efforts to assist with increasing patient volumes.

    • Delivers patient care consistent with policy and with high regard to patients/employee safety and quality of care. Supports new clinical and service initiatives with a positive attitude; seeks opportunities to improve care and the patient experience.

    • Develops and contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality and safety standards. Addresses roadblocks to achieving goals and objectives. Ensures compliance with governmental and accreditation regulations.

    • Embraces new technology and use of electronic health record. Documents clinically related activities accurately.

    • Embraces workflows and needs to ensure clinical staff is properly and thoroughly trained and competent to assist the providers.

    • Establishes work schedules and daily assignments while delegating and assigning responsibilities/duties and assures proper accounting of hours and paid time off. Receives associate absence calls.

    • Implements and reinforces MedStar PromptCare policies and procedures to ensure quality performance as well as cost reduction. Identifies and addresses potential infection control needs. Evaluates problems and implements solutions in conjunction with the Manager of Operations and/or the Director of Nursing.

    • Procures and manages site equipment, instrumentation, supplies, etc. Promotes an atmosphere of respect towards patients, families, vendors, employers and co-workers. Acts and communicates professionally at all times. Provides care consistent with MedStar's mission, vision and values and in a manner that encourages patient confidence and loyalty by exceeding expectations. Acts as a mentor for the clinical staff; leads by example and fosters staff development.

    • Provides direct patients care, including, but not limited to: escorting patients to examination room, taking vitals, performing EKG's, phlebotomy, giving injections and assisting providers with procedures as necessary.

    • Ensures the physical well being of patients.

    • Reports statistics, evaluates problems, and proposes solutions for the office.

    • Resolves conflicts between patients, providers, and staff independently and/or in consultation with the providers.

    • Reviews diagnostic test results. Notifies appropriate provider of any critical or abnormal results. Notifies patient of results as requested by provider. Completes proper documentation in electronic medical record.

    • Supervises completion of logs and ensures quality control.

    • Supervises the day to day patient flow at the PromptCare office. Works with providers and staff to minimize the patient's wait.

    • Supports own personal development and needs to practice at a high-level of independence.

    • Works to create a cohesive and productive work team. Provides adequate training of new associates and conducts competency testing for clinical staff as needed. Ensures certificates are kept current. Maintains continuing education program for staff by giving or arranging for in-services and providing for training opportunities. Regularly distributes and ensures receipt of information regarding new developments, policies, and procedures.
