Job Description:
Description: Interpret and carry out physician/clinician orders,
assess patient needs, exercise nursing judgment in patient care,
provide leadership and assistance in health services, and
participate as an active, integral member of the health care team.
The staff nurse must display initiative and follow-through on
duties with relatively little guidance; retain all confidentiality
practices in patient-related matters; be able to assist in
identifying the changing needs of the health center; support the
team concept of health center staff; provide patient-centered care;
and maintain a professional working relationship with clinicians,
co-workers, and patients. Requirements: Prepare and maintain
confidential patient medical records including processing and
filing charts. Maintain accurate documentation and records of
patient registration, medical records, lab tests, treatment, etc.
Respond to telephone calls, electronic medical record tasks, and
questions related to patient care concerns requiring nursing
judgment. Competently utilize the electronic patient information
system and practice management software. Assist patients in
completing required forms. Provide non-biased pregnancy options and
contraception information. Maintain updated knowledge and provide
accurate information to patients seeking information about family
planning services, abortion services, birth control methods, and
other patient care services provided by the organization. Obtain
and review complete patient medical histories. Provide appropriate
and accurate patient education to patients, including medication
education for prescribed and administered/dispensed medications.
Administer/dispense prescribed oral/vaginal/buccal/injectable
medications and supplies, ensuring proper labeling of all
prescribed medication and proper documentation. Support patients
physically and emotionally during examinations, treatments, and
procedures. Participate in patient follow-up regarding abnormal
test results, referrals, appointments, etc. Assist Centralized
Follow Up regarding abnormal test result notification, follow up
after referrals, follow up after medication abortion, refill
requests, patient questions/concerns, and patient education as
needed. Complete and document routine lab tests and nursing
evaluations including, but not limited to measuring and documenting
client height, weight, vital signs, pain, level of consciousness,
bleeding evaluations. Maintain cleanliness and inventory of the lab
areas, recovery room, and exam areas. Perform invasive procedures
as prescribed (i.e. injections, TB testing, and venipuncture).
Consult with clinician/physician regarding patient care/concerns as
needed. Perform limited pelvic ultrasounds for purposes of
measuring gestational size, locating pregnancy and placenta,
evaluating pregnancy number, and intraprocedural guidance as
needed. Begin and monitor intravenous flow of medication(s) and/or
IV fluids. Conduct and document nursing assessments prior to,
during and after the administration of minimal or moderate
(conscious) sedation. Prior to administering moderate (conscious)
sedation, ensure that all safety measures are in place, including
back-up personnel skilled and trained in airway management and
resuscitation and the presence of reversal agents and emergency
medications/equipment should complications occur. Administer
medications ordered by a provider lawfully authorized to prescribe
for the purpose of induction of minimal or moderate sedation for
short-term surgical procedures. Anticipate and recognize potential
complications of minimal and moderate sedation medication and
respond appropriately instituting emergency protocols/procedures as
needed. Recognize emergency situations, assist in emergencies as
needed, and institute emergency procedures and protocols when
indicated. Monitor vital signs, bleeding, level of consciousness,
and pain during recovery until patient is stable and meets
discharge criteria. Triage calls from patients and staff per PPMW
protocol. Participate in after-hours emergency call triage nursing
per PPMW protocol. Document and follow up on after-hours calls as
dictated per protocol. Participate in risk and quality management
activities, including, but not limited to completing audits as
required, recording any adverse reactions/events, incident
reporting, and maintenance of abortion complication data. Assist
Primary Care and Family Planning team as needed with patient
education and patient follow up (including but not limited to
communication of lab results, follow up plans, referrals, and
insurance verification / prior authorizations). Appropriately
delegate nursing duties to LPN/LVN and/or Health Care Assistant.
Act as a resource to physicians and clinicians regarding Planned
Parenthood Policy. Maintain ACLS certification. Other duties as
assigned. Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the
District of Columbia, Maryland and/or Virginia. CPR/BLS certified.
Possess minimum of 2 years related experience. Ambulatory surgical
experience preferred. Ability to work in a cost effective,
efficient, flexible, and customer service-oriented manner.
Compensation details: 44-53 Hourly Wage
