Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications:
BLS, ACLS, NRP Must-Have: C-section experience required; must be
able to circulate and recover. Description: The unit includes 6
"homelike" suites with private bathrooms where labor and delivery
occur, along with private showers. There are no triage beds;
unscheduled visits are seen in the emergency department. The
postpartum area consists of 11 private rooms. The facility averages
1050 births per year, with 3000 outpatient visits. Certification
requirements include BLS, ACLS, and NRP. In-house assistance is
available in the NICU. Experience in labor and delivery for two
years is preferred, with one year in mother-baby acceptable.
First-time travelers are welcome. Nurse-to-patient ratios follow
established guidelines: 1-2 for labor and delivery and 4 for
couplets. The electronic medical record system is EPIC. Charge
nurses are present for each side 24/7 and take patient assignments.
Every other weekend and holiday participation is required. Scrubs
are provided for labor and delivery, navy for the mother-baby unit.
Telemetry can be placed on the floor and is monitored in a
designated room. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are
available 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours and begin at 0700 and 1900,
ending at 0730 and 1930. Cross-coverage between units is expected.
One shift is provided for onboarding, and an additional 12-hour
shift is allotted for specific floor orientation with a preceptor.
Common patient diagnoses include those requiring care for high-risk
pregnancies. The facility has earned notable certifications for
perinatal care and safe sleep practices. They have advanced infant
security measures and provide lactation consulting with a
family-centered approach. The cancellation policy allows for a
limited number of shift cancellations during assignments.
