Job Description:
General Summary of PositionProvides comprehensive Medical
Nutrition Therapy to inpatients with a variety of medical
conditions. This includes but is not limited to performing
malnutrition assessments, nutrition focused physical exams, diet
educations, and providing nutrition support recommendations. In
addition, leads or co-leads Quality Improvement initiatives. These
functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and
regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's
philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards while adhering to
MedStar's "Spirit Values.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Consults with and/or makes recommendations to physicians and
other allied health professionals regarding patients' nutritional
statuses, nutrient needs or specific diet plan.
- Formulates nutrition assessment, evaluation, and follow-up
plans for patients at nutrition risk as ordered by providers or
according to departmental policy. Recommends and documents
patient's nutrition treatment findings and plan in the patient's
medical record.
- Consults in/outpatients in diet rationale for
self-management.
- Participates in clinical rounds, appropriate department/service
meetings, and communicates appropriate information to
administrative personnel in service area. Must be flexible to
cross-cover and train in all areas including the Neonatal ICU and
Pediatrics if needed.
- Reviews at least two annual reviews of literature pertinent to
area(s) of responsibility and presents to peers in Journal
Club.
- Presents at least one case study to peers annually.
- Attends pertinent meeting to enhance clinical practice growth,
records and documents in CDR Professional Development Plan.
- Performs at least one annual formal professional presentation
in area of specialty to allied health professionals or the
community.
- Develops and implements annually at least one of the following:
new policy or policy change, OR leads or co-leads QAPI project,
major research project, or other nutrition related project as
directed and approved by the CNM.
- Submits QAPI or research results for publication every other
year or presents poster at a local conference/symposium.
- Serves on interdisciplinary committee/council or serves in a
leadership role such as internship liaison, student/observer lead,
nutrition rotation lead, new hire mentor, or other roles as per CNM
discretion.
- Provides relief and cross-coverage, as delegated, for
in/outpatient services.
- Maintains current CDR credentials and DC Licensure and
completes yearly competencies as outline by MGUH.
- Holds current membership in a professional organization
pertinent to the role.
- Participates in licensing surveys as needed.
- Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate
to the position and area. The above responsibilities are a general

Minimum Qualifications Education
- Bachelor's degree B.S. degree with a major in Food & Nutrition
Science from an accredited college or university and the completion
of an accredited dietetic internship. required and
- Master's degree Master's degree from an accredited college or
university if completed after January 1, 2024. required and
Experience
- 8-10 years Eight years minimum of progressive clinical
nutrition experience required.
Licenses and Certifications
- REG DIET - Dietitian - Registered Commission on Dietetic
Registration Upon Hire required and
- Dietitian DC DOH - DIETDC DC Department of Health-Board of
Dietetics and Nutrition Upon Hire required and
- CNSC - Certified Nutrition Support Clinician Or other specialty
certification recognized by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
and/or Commission on Dietetic Registration such as: CSP, CSO,
CSPCC, RDN-AP, CSR, CSG, CDCES that benefits MGUH. Upon Hire

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Current knowledge of clinical dietetics.
- Able to navigate Electronic Medical Record efficiently.
- Functional with basic word processing skills.
- Good communicator with peers and members of the
interdisciplinary team.
- Able to manage time efficiently and able to multi-task.
- Flexibility in schedule and tasks, as needed.
- Comfortable with public speaking.
This position has a hiring range of $72,758 - $123,260
