Fire Life Safety Coordinator, Emergency & Health Safety - Georgetown University

The Fire Life Safety Coordinator is responsible for working with the University Fire Marshall, the Fire Protection Engineer, and Exec. Director of EH&S. This position schedules and coordinates fire drills and fire system inspection, testing and maintenance (ITM) activities on campus. The coordinator additionally assists the life safety service manager in direction and management of the third party service contract; including but not limited to tracking and resolving maintenance invoices. The coordinator tracks, records and analyzes completed ITM to ensure compliance with GU, local, and national requirements.

Work Interactions

The position reports to the Exec. Dir. of EH&S and supports the University Fire Marshal and Fire Protection Engineer, and fire/life safety service manager and vendors. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates with facilities and/or appropriate staff to schedule and provides contractor escorts as needed.
  • Attends staff and other meetings to record and prepare written summaries of discussions as requested.
  • Supports contract and project management efforts for fire and life safety.
  • Reads and interprets service work tickets and supplier invoices.
  • Ensures submitted third party invoices are correct and processed in a timely fashion.
  • Analyzes and resolves conflicting schedules of multiple university stakeholders to coordinate system outages.
  • Provides notification to affected staff, faculty and residential services prior to planned system outages or testing.
  • Assists in the management of the University-wide Fire Extinguisher Program.
    Applicant must be able to effectively communicate both orally and in writing on matters concerning fire protection and life safety systems in regards to scheduling testing or fire drills.

    Applicant must be able to effectively communicate with outside vendors and consultants on project related issues.


    Academic Level: High school diploma required; BS Fire Science (preferred), Safety Program Compliance

    Minimum experience: 3 years or applicable college level coursework

    Salary Range: $40 to $50K

    Work Mode: Hybrid 2 Days. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.
