OverviewCome join the US Oncology-Adventist Health Care joint venture in Silver Spring, Maryland, the Center for Advanced Radiation Oncology, at the White Oak Cancer Center, located within minutes of both Washington DC and Baltimore! You will be under the direct supervision of the Medical Director of Radiation Oncology and will work very closely with all team members of the Maryland Oncology Hematology (MOH) Capital Division and White Oak Adventist Medical Center. The Radiation Oncology nurse plays a significant role within the patient's cancer care journey and continues to evolve in response to the changing needs of cancer patients and families. The Radiation Oncology nurse will help coordinate, manage, and communicate the plan of treatment to patients and their families. The Radiation Oncology nurse is a pivotal part of our triage and acute symptom management team at MOH and will help us in working together with the Infusion Center located on the 7th floor of the Cancer Center, to ensure that all patient and family needs are met on our patients' journey through survivorship. The Radiation Oncology Nurse will assist our team in supporting and adhering to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Please reach out to us with your interest in this very exciting opportunity for growth and career advancement!HOURS/FACILITY- Monday-Friday hours 8 am-5 pm, no weekends, and off on all Federal Holidays.- Free Parking- Brand new state-of-the-art facility with the latest and greatest equipment and technology in Radiation Oncology, focused on adults with cancer, treating all disease subsites.-1 Linear Accelerator, with 20-30 patients under daily treatment and in the process of expanding services to include delivery of IV Contrast for CT Simulation and treatment with high-dose-rate (HDR) Brachytherapy Responsibilities -Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices in radiation oncology.-Assesses health status by interviewing patients regarding their current status and medical history.-Collects and records nursing assessments and interventions.-Reviews and reports the results of the health status assessment and physical examination, pertinent laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial assessment of assigned patients to the provider.-Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material.-Provides psychosocial support to patients and families.-Maintains patient confidentiality.-Prepares and administers therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.-Maintains work environment, follows OSHA guidelines, disinfection protocols, and equipment according to quality control standards.-Facilitates clinical operations and patient care by assisting the physician with exams and procedures, maintaining patient flow, triaging patient phone calls-Assist patients in locating available community resources-Participates in professional development activities and maintains current knowledge of radiation oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities. Qualifications Minimum Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities) / Education/Training:- Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.- RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in Maryland.- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.- At least one year of nursing experience working with Cancer patients is preferred.Specialized Knowledge/Skills:- Radiation Oncology / Oncology certification preferred.Working Conditions:Environment (Office, warehouse, etc.) - The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
