Collaborating with both public and private partners, we strive for a world where all people are empowered to live healthy, productive lives.EDC is committed to diversity in the workplace.Job DescriptionThe Trauma Recovery, Mental Health Promotion, and Violence Prevention Team has an opening for a full-time Managing Editor I / Curriculum Developer (Trauma/Mental Health Focus) who will report to the Associate Team Director. The position is to be located in either Waltham, MA; Washington, DC; or via remote home office. EDC Is currently remote through at least June 2021. A part-time position of 50-75% is an option for the right candidate. Funded through federal and foundation grants, the Trauma Recovery, Mental Health Promotion, and Violence Prevention Team works to develop new evidence-based training programs (face-to-face and virtual), train a variety of professionals and lay audiences in clinical and public health-focused interventions, consult to various audiences on issues of mental health, trauma, and violence prevention, and work at the school, community, state, and national levels to advance and promote initiatives and add to thought leadership that promotes mental wellness, trauma-informed approaches, suicide prevention, and violence prevention on individual and systemic levels.Essential FunctionsThe person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.The Person In This Position Is Expected ToThe Managing Editor (I) / Curriculum Developer (Trauma/Mental Health Focus) is responsible for directing the development and execution of a variety of complex, high impact writing and editorial projects for internal and/or external audiences.* Manage publication, communication, or production projects* Work in multiple content areas on diverse tasks requiring broad experience and technical exposure* Work on complex problems, where analysis requires in-depth evaluation of intangible variables* Define objectives and guides products through multiple revisions to achieve them* Determine methods and procedures; recommend policies* Recommend new concepts, designs, and layouts* Manage usage of style & editorial rules; keep abreast of changes in tools, methods, and techniques* Draft and organize manuscripts, edit, and review final drafts for typesetting or publication; may rewrite or modify copy to conform to publication's style and editorial policy; oversee authentication and correction of data* Discuss copy with client for approval and to incorporate changes* Oversee database management and procedures for recordkeeping and updating & maintenance of documentation * Recommend & conduct improvements in technical or administrative policies & procedures* Write and edit a broad variety of articles, papers, publications, and marketing or promotional pieces* May select or recommend graphics to illustrate documents* Implement policies & procedures related to service agreements and contractual obligations* May specialize in one or more fields, or in a particular type of publication, such as manuals, handbooks, articles, or proposals* Write and design curricula, training manuals, and written resources developed across projects, working closing with subject matter experts to solidify the learning objectives, content, and then serving as main writer of the materials (an example can be found here)* Strategically design curricula including learning objectives and delivery method according to adult learning principles* Serve as main writer for new federal proposals for new business development opportunities (an example can be found here)* Serve as main writer for peer-reviewed publications to highlight team's project work (an example can be found here)* Develop formal and informal pieces such as white papers and blogs on issues related to mental health, trauma, and/or violence prevention (examples of blogs can be found here and here)* Research and collect necessary information from the literature to inform publications, resources, subject matter experts, and training curricula* Identify gaps in knowledge and understanding* Revise and edit materials in response to feedback and/or external review* Work with instructional designers to finalize training curricula and materials for external useThe Managing Editor (I) / Curriculum Developer (Trauma/Mental Health Focus):* Coordinates project publications from initiation to completion* Confers with center or project staff to establish project goals and technical specifications, determine specific or general subject material to be developed for publication, or to resolve development or publishing problems* Collaborates with senior staff/management on complex questions; exercises tact and discretion in raising and resolving issues* Keeps management informed of status of issues and projects* Interviews individuals or attends meetings to obtain items or clarify information for inclusion, and verify facts; researches or seeks technical advice and refers complex problems to senior management* Facilitates teamwork and feedback exchanges* Provides technical guidance and may train or supervise regular or contract staff, lead projects and schedule work, and assigns research and other editorial duties, to less experienced staff or assistants, advising them as needed* May coordinate products with freelance writers or editors, graphic artists, multimedia specialists, publishers, and printers; supervising quality* May work with internal clients on preformatted periodic publications such as quarterly reports or periodicalsAdditionally, the Managing Editor (I) / Curriculum Developer (Trauma/Mental Health Focus):* Works largely independently on problems or assignments, determining methods and procedures for accomplishing tasks while also being able to work in a group and with team members to solidify needs for each task* Manages overall product development process* Selects or recommends graphics to illustrate documents* Troubleshoots problems* Keeps management informed of status of issues and projects * Applies style and editorial rules and uses electronic editing tools expertly* Implements record-keeping procedures and maintains their documentation* Appropriately utilizes experience, awareness, and sensitivity to develop resources for a variety of cultural audiences* May travelQualificationsThis unique opportunity provides the excitement of working for a successful, high-growth, mission-driven organization, continuing to grow as a trusted, objective leader in the field of mental health, trauma, and violence prevention. Someone who exhibits flexibility, enthusiasm, responsiveness, aptitude for details, a positive attitude, creativity, strategic and analytical thinking, responds well to feedback, nurtures and exhibits appreciation for a culture of quality improvement, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to be proactive, and to produce quality work under tight deadlines in an ever- changing environment.Specific Requirements IncludeThis position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal and organizational skills.* Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training & experience* Master's degree in public health, mental health, communications, education, or related field preferred* 7+ years related writing/editorial management experience, including prior supervisory/project management* Ability to attend to details and adhere to deadlines* Knowledge of word-processing, internet, and database software* Strong creative, interpersonal, networking, and analytical skillsPreferred Experience* Experience which includes substantial curricula development and writing on public health issues (background in mental health, behavioral health, or trauma issues) preferred* Experience in developing adult learning materials for face-to-face and virtual interactive learning* Experience in developing practical, applicable learning materials (examples will be requested)* Experience in writing peer-reviewed publications (examples will be requested)* Experience in writing grant proposals (examples will be requested)* Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills* Experience developing learning objectives and paired learning activities for variety of training topics and audiencesAdditional InformationPlease submit a thoughtful cover letter, resume, and a 5-10-page curricula you developed primarily on your own.
