PREFERENCE: -This fellowship is limited to Georgetown Law School 3L
students, graduating in 2023 only. -The Executive Office of the
Mayor, Office of General Counsel and Georgetown partner fellowship
will offer a recent Georgetown Law graduate the opportunity to work
for one year with Mayor Muriel Bowser's Office of General Counsel.
-The fellowship is open to Georgetown JD students graduating in
2023. -Qualifications: - The fellowship is open to Georgetown JD
students graduating in 2023. Candidates should have a strong
interest in local government, excellent research and writing
skills, and the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Candidates must live in the District of Columbia. - - The Office of
General Counsel ("OGC") consists of six attorneys (including one
fellow) and an Executive Assistant. -OGC serves as counsel to the
Mayor, as well as over 20 agencies and offices reporting to the
Mayor, and to the Deputy Mayors as necessary or requested. - The
work of the office is varied and fast paced. - The work ranges from
legislative and regulatory review and occasional drafting, to
drafting and review of other legal documents such as proposed
settlements, interagency Memoranda of Understanding, Mayor's
Orders, and Mayor's Memoranda. - The OGC also works on Open
Government issues, including the processing of FOIA requests
submitted to the Executive Office of the Mayor. - Situated within
the Executive Office of the Mayor, OGC is involved, at least
tangentially, in virtually everything that goes on in District
government. - With an administration as dynamic as Mayor Bowser's,
every day is exciting. - OGC interacts and collaborates with other
agencies daily, so the fellow will have the opportunity to learn
about the important work that agencies all across the district are
doing - not just that of the Executive Office of the Mayor. - A
fellowship with OGC will offer a unique chance to work in a
government that WORKS! - Fellow Duties: The fellow will have the
chance to work on a range of projects and subject areas. - It is
anticipated that over the course of the Fellowship, the fellow will
have opportunities to develop legal skills relating to ethics and
open government, legislation and regulations, governmental
appointments to boards and commissions, anti-discrimination law,
and personnel matters. - Significant time will be devoted to
assisting the team's FOIA officer and processing FOIA requests,
applying applicable legal exemptions, communicating with
requestors, and closing out requests. - Other responsibilities will
