Position Summary/Purpose of Position: The Office of Diversity & Inclusion ( ODI ) provides leadership and expertise for helping the university achieve its diversity, equity and inclusion goals. Guided by social justice principles, we cultivate a vibrant learning and working community for all members. The following units are within ODI : ADA Compliance, Bias Incident Support Services, Diversity Training & Education, LGBTQ+ Equity Center, Nyumburu Cultural Center, Office of Civil Rights & Sexual Misconduct, Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education, and TerrapinSTRONG. The assistant vice president for diversity and inclusion ( AVPDI ) provides leadership in driving change through the development and implementation of strategic equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives and learning engagement across the university. This position will actively lead the development and implementation of strategic plans, Campus Climate Survey, and action goals to promote the institution's values and objectives. The AVPDI serves as a thought leader on issues of equity, diversity and inclusion, providing relevant guidance to key stakeholders throughout the university and local communities. The AVPDI provides direct supervision of Bias Incident Support Services, Diversity Training & Education, LGBTQ+ Equity Center, Nyumburu Cultural Center, and Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education; and provides support of equity & compliance units. The AVPDI reports to the vice president for diversity and inclusion ( VPDI ). The AVPDI will assist the VPDI in institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and will collaborate closely with multiple internal and external stakeholders and partners/collaborators. Also, the AVPDI will assist the VPDI with providing guidance and consultation to campus constituents regarding compliance requirements, rights, and responsibilities. This position oversees and/or leads the planning, development, and execution of verbal/written reports and delivers training. This position may represent the VPDI at meetings and events and will provide follow-up reports and recommendations. Minimum Qualifications: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Master's degree. Ten (10) years of demonstrated leadership experience in developing initiatives and programs in equity, diversity and inclusion which includes evidence of strategic agility. Proven track record of facilitating conversations and mediating diverse opinions to address shared needs and concerns. Experience responding to events that warrant a high level of understanding and appropriate reaction to issues associated with equity, diversity and inclusion in academia. Five (5) years of supervisory experience. KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • Knowledge of equity, diversity and inclusion framework and best practices.
  • Knowledge of budget and fiscal management.
  • Knowledge of relevant research and assessment standards in higher education.
  • Demonstrated expertise in working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills including writing, editing, and speaking/facilitating.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Time and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and work with deadlines.
  • Ability to be proactive and keep abreast with best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion and any changes in relevant legislation.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and tact while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Passion for supporting marginalized and historically underrepresented student populations and community members. Preferences: Preferences:
    • Ph.D. or advanced terminal degree preferred, but not required.
    • Higher Education experience preferred.
    • Experience working with collective bargaining units.
    • Demonstrated commitment to intersectional diversity, equity and inclusion.
    • Familiarity of nondiscrimination laws and compliance regulation as it pertains to Civil Rights Act, Title IX, Higher Education laws, Americans with Disabilities Act, Affirmative Action, and EEO .
    • Familiarity with securing outside funding (e.g., grant writing and research administration, donor relations, or fundraising).
    • Advanced user of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access).
    • Intermediate to Advance user of GSuite and Adobe Acrobat. Additional Certifications: Additional Information:
      • Salary range for this position is high $190s to high $230s and commensurate with experience.
