Summary/Purpose of Position: The Office of Diversity & Inclusion (
ODI ) provides leadership and expertise for helping the university
achieve its diversity, equity and inclusion goals. Guided by social
justice principles, we cultivate a vibrant learning and working
community for all members. The following units are within ODI : ADA
Compliance, Bias Incident Support Services, Diversity Training &
Education, LGBTQ+ Equity Center, Nyumburu Cultural Center, Office
of Civil Rights & Sexual Misconduct, Office of Multi-ethnic Student
Education, and TerrapinSTRONG. The assistant vice president for
diversity and inclusion ( AVPDI ) provides leadership in driving
change through the development and implementation of strategic
equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives and learning engagement
across the university. This position will actively lead the
development and implementation of strategic plans, Campus Climate
Survey, and action goals to promote the institution's values and
objectives. The AVPDI serves as a thought leader on issues of
equity, diversity and inclusion, providing relevant guidance to key
stakeholders throughout the university and local communities. The
AVPDI provides direct supervision of Bias Incident Support
Services, Diversity Training & Education, LGBTQ+ Equity Center,
Nyumburu Cultural Center, and Office of Multi-ethnic Student
Education; and provides support of equity & compliance units. The
AVPDI reports to the vice president for diversity and inclusion (
VPDI ). The AVPDI will assist the VPDI in institutional diversity,
equity, and inclusion efforts and will collaborate closely with
multiple internal and external stakeholders and
partners/collaborators. Also, the AVPDI will assist the VPDI with
providing guidance and consultation to campus constituents
regarding compliance requirements, rights, and responsibilities.
This position oversees and/or leads the planning, development, and
execution of verbal/written reports and delivers training. This
position may represent the VPDI at meetings and events and will
provide follow-up reports and recommendations. Minimum
Qualifications: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Master's degree. Ten
(10) years of demonstrated leadership experience in developing
initiatives and programs in equity, diversity and inclusion which
includes evidence of strategic agility. Proven track record of
facilitating conversations and mediating diverse opinions to
address shared needs and concerns. Experience responding to events
that warrant a high level of understanding and appropriate reaction
to issues associated with equity, diversity and inclusion in
academia. Five (5) years of supervisory experience. KNOWLEDGE ,
