Position Objective
The Operations Coordinator provides support and assistance to the
Nurse Director in the supervision and management of the daily
operations in Interventional Radiology and Cardiac Cath Lab. The
role ensures that all activities associated with the daily
execution of suite procedures are coordinated and communicated in a
way that departmental and inter-departmental efficiency is
expedited; patient care is facilitated with minimal delay and that
quality of services is consistently maintained. The Operations
Coordinator supports the Mission, Vision and Values of Doctors
Community Hospital.

- Reviews staff schedule, adjusts staffing appropriately to cover
the needs of the department daily, including flexing staff if
needed.
- Directs staff in the application of the nursing process,
provides direction, coordinates patients' care, promotes and
enhances independent functioning among employees.
- Plans for patient care needs by reviewing appropriateness of
scheduled cases and availability of supplies I equipment and
staff.
- Evaluates and adjusts specialty team staffing. Completes
patient care assignments based on expertise of staff members and
demands of the suite schedule.
- Demonstrates competence and knowledge in the assessment,
treatment and care of adult and geriatric patients within the
setting.
- Regularly acts as role model to nursing staff, technicians, and
support staff in demonstrating RISE values.
- Regularly acts as role model to nursing staff by demonstrating
clinical and theoretical expertise using evidence-based knowledge
and prevailing standards.
- Constantly demonstrates critical thinking and
innovation.
- When needed, supports clinical caseload.
- Arranges for housekeeping and maintenance departmental services
to ensure a safe environment for patients, employees, visitors, and
medical staff.
- Coordinates and communicates between clinical and non-clinical
areas of the facility and within the system AS all potential or
actual patient problems that may affect the daily activities within
the suite and the quality of patient care.
- Coordinates and communicates with ancillary departments to
maintain cooperative working environment.
- Coordinates and ensures information flow to surgical families
on any updates with the patient's schedule / condition.
- Coordinates resolution of problems identified pre-operatively
resulting in no significant delay to surgical procedure, patient
recovery, or discharge.
- Delegates tasks appropriate to unit personnel to facilitate
schedule and minimize delays in planned surgery.
- Orchestrates the services of operating room personnel to
provide rapid progression from cleaning to preparing room (OR) for
the next case.
- Enforces and maintains intra-operative standards of
care.
- Directs the operating room personnel in areas such as
organizing, cleaning, and stocking as deemed necessary.
- Oversees clinical nursing practice, utilization of area
resources, and operations in accordance with department goals and
objectives, regulatory, professional, and accrediting agency
standards, as well as the policies and procedures of Doctors
Community Medical Center.
- Elevates to management problems requiring administrative
intervention in time to minimize patient, surgeon, visitor, and /
or hospital employees dissatisfaction.
- Identifies and reports appropriately potential and actual
quality improvement issues.
- Observes and monitors quality of staff performance and
physician activities to prevent harm or injury to the patients, and
reports appropriately to the OR Nurse Manager.
- Reports accurately and timely all patient problems requiring
physician notification that may result in delay or cancellation of
surgery, delay of recovery and or discharge.
- Monitors efficient room turnover.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Performs staff developmental activities.
- In collaboration with educator, establishes an orientation and
education plan for the staff and updates clinical practice
changes.
- Maintains current job-related knowledge and seeks opportunities
to advance that knowledge through continuing education, seminars,
and other educational offerings.
- Participates in hospital and departmental performance
improvement activities by implementing practice improvements based
on the results of departmental quality and improvement assurance
activities.
- Assists with orienting / preceding of departmental
staff.
- Participates in the development of unit / hospital based
standards of practice; mentors others in this development.
- Consistently plans and incorporates new routines, procedures
and equipment into practice.
- Develops team focused interactions and works effectively with
others to plan for annual objectives to be achieved by specialty
teams.
- Consults with staff, physicians, and unit manager to identify
service specific educational needs.
- Plans formal/informal education programs with the OR Educator
and assists in competency
- development and presentation.
- Collects, analyzes and reviews data and participates in
practice committees when appropriate.
- Conducts research and evaluates new product introduced by
industry representatives.
- Participates in professional organizations and attends relevant
conferences to keep in pace with current practice. Provides
leadership direction to staff.
- Routinely acts as a clinical resource / consultant to staff for
problem identification and resolution.
- Anticipates and proactively guide scare to prevent untoward
events.
- Demonstrates mentoring ability when interacting with staff
members.
- Acts as a role model for change; manages and implements new
technological changes and practices.
- Delegates effectively in daily operations and utilizes critical
thinking skills in crisis situations in a calm and professional
manner.
- Monitors room turnover / case setup and directs team members in
order to achieve operational efficiency and on time
starts.
- Communicates effectively with staff to ensure necessary
information is disseminated.
- Exemplifies patient advocacy with physicians, staff, family and
community. Proactively resolves issues and fosters this behavior in
other staff members.
- Assures staff is held accountable for assigned responsibilities

Monitors staff for compliance with internal and external safety
policies and procedures.

- Assures employee and departmental compliance to hospital
policies and procedures.
- Assists in ensuring that all equipment is clean and functioning
safely, removes malfunctioning equipment from service and notifies
appropriate personnel.
- Maintains equipment log book for any equipment malfunction to
identify trends and address key performance indicators for
equipment vendors.
- Takes lead in interviews for staff selection.
- Coordinate, facilitate, and manage change within the health
care organization.
- Facilitate or serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in
planning patient care.
- Completes annual staff reviews.
- Demonstrates flexibility to work on multiple projects at one
time.

Qualifications and Experience
- 3 years experience in acute care setting in IR or Cath Lab
preferred.
- Ability to care for patients in suite to meet basic
needs.
- Specialty Certification preferred.
- Current AC LS is required.
- Current CPR/BLS is required.
- Current RN license in Maryland or compact state.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program, BSN required,
Master's preferred.
- Knowledgeable of IR/Catheterization Lab standards,
preferred.
- Minimum 5 years Interventional Radiology or Cardiac Cath Lab
nurse experience required.
- Coding/billing experience
Physical Requirements
- Concentrates on moderate to fine detail for extended period of
time.
- Full range of body motion including handling and lifting
patients; manual and finger dexterity;
- hand/eye coordination.
- Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of
time
