The primary function of the National Outreach Director is to
oversee the national operations of U.S.VETS Outreach services with
a focus on preventing and ending homelessness. This position will
collaborate with agencies across the nation to connect veterans to
housing and services to ensure any veteran referred to U.S.VETS is
provided applicable resources in any market. This position will
also provide guidance and supervision to U.S.VETS Outreach teams at
its existing locations to maximize utilization of programs and
reduce homelessness among veterans and their families as rapidly as
possible. This position reports directly to the Vice President of
Programs of U.S.VETS.

Responsibilities:
- Manages inquiries for veteran services that come into U.S.VETS
call center from veterans, their families, community members,
businesses, service agencies, advocacy groups, and others by
directly answering and responding to calls, making referrals and
warm hand-offs to internal and external programs, and ensuring
follow up is done to determine outcome of referrals.
- Directly collaborates with partnering organizations who make
direct referrals to U.S.VETS to ensure a seamless and effective
referral process is implemented and maintained, timely responses
are provided, and veterans are connected to appropriate
services.
- Develops and manages relationships with coordinated entry
systems and veteran service agencies across the nation with a focus
on markets where U.S.VETS is not currently present; maintains a
resource database of agencies, contact information, interactions,
and follow ups.
- Manages U.S.VETS Outreach Department by providing guidance,
support, training, and supervision to each site and each Outreach
Coordinator.
- Ensures veterans referred to U.S.VETS or otherwise encountered
are assessed, connected to applicable resources, and both the
veteran and the resource are followed up with to determine the
outcome of the referrals.
- Maintains a database of clients served and ensures each
U.S.VETS location is also maintaining site outreach databases which
include client demographics, referral source, referrals made,
follow ups, and outcomes.
- Plans, develops, implements, evaluates, and expands outreach
services for veterans in compliance with the requirements of
funders and needs of program participants.
- Collaborates with Program Managers and other site leadership
for site-specific Outreach staff supervision and outreach
operations.
- Creates and implements strategic plans to increase reach to
veterans and their families and connect them to resources and
services.
- Collaborates with site management and Development Department to
prepare outreach-related proposals, data, budgets, reports, and
application packages to increase funding for outreach services as
needed.
- Performs necessary tasks to track and achieve Outreach goals
and compile data for reporting.
- Responsible for reports and corrective action plans for
outreach-related goals and for organization weekly, monthly, and
year-end reports.
- Maintains knowledge of veteran programs both within U.S.VETS
and at other agencies across the nation to include eligibility
requirements to aid in referrals.
- Deliver organized, structured, and persuasive presentations
that communicate U.S.VETS mission, goals, values, and brand to
businesses, government agencies, community organizations, and
digitally at the national level and when needed, state and local
levels.
- Monitors trends in housing inventory, homeless services, and
outreach needs and strategizes to meet outreach goals
nationally.
- Engages in strategic planning and national initiatives related
to outreach activities and reducing homelessness with the National
Coalition for Homeless Veterans, Department of Veteran Affairs,
Continuums of Care, Homeless Councils, and other advocacy and
provider groups nationwide.
- Travel as needed to support national efforts.
- Handles special projects as assigned.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in related field preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of military experience and/or community
outreach experience required. Minimum of 5 years of outreach
experience at U.S.VETS may substitute.
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory and leadership experience in
related field required.
- Experience working with homeless and/or veteran population
required.
- Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with
community organizations and government programs required.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of clients,
staff, and community members.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Leadership and conflict management skills.
- Demonstration of personal and financial integrity in the
workplace.
- Ability to take direction, work independently with minimal
oversight, and to work within a team.
- Computer proficient in Microsoft Office and Internet.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
- Must have strong presentation skills and possess the ability to
interact with small, medium, and large groups.
- Valid drivers license required. Must meet company insurance
requirements and complete a provided driver training course.
- Experience dealing with clients possessing multiple barriers
preferred.
U.S.VETS provides housing, counseling, career services and
comprehensive support to 5,500 homeless and at-risk veterans and
families each night. Founded in LA more than 25 years ago, U.S.VETS
now has 30 residential sites and services centers across the
country, with more in development. With the goal of ending veteran
homelessness, U.S.VETS launched prevention programs, focused on
jobs and mental health, and advocates on the State and Federal
level for resources to help service members transition successfully
to civilian life. We will continue in our mission until no man or
woman who served our country is left sleeping on its streets.
