Position Concept
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Vice President (VP), Development serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in making strategic decisions. In partnership with the CDO, this position is responsible for all resource generation and fundraising activities. The successful candidate will have a track record of effectively managing a fundraising team and its processes. As well as a proven ability to forge new relationships at a high-level donors to build JA's visibility, impact, and financial resources.
The VP, Development will have primary responsibility for implementing the infrastructure needed to grow a current $4M budget to $7M+ in future years through the solicitation of major gifts, federal and state grants, special events, and corporate and foundation support.
They will support expanding and diversify JA's donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for current and new initiatives. In addition, the VP will work closely with the CDO and the organization's board of directors as they take on a more active fundraising role.
Organizational Requirements

    • Oversee the operational functions of the Development Department, which include management of development staff person(s), department specific constituent management system(s) and processes, and outside/board related committees that support organizational fundraising activities that may include: corporate, individual, foundation, state, capital and/or special event activities. Essential Duties/Responsibilities
      • Actively work with the CDO to develop and implement a comprehensive development strategy to include corporate, foundation, individuals, government sources, etc. to grow JA's funding base and long-term fund development
        • Coach and mentor JA development team to support organizational fund development growth
        • Participate in budget planning, goal setting and strategic planning to create the development team's annual operating plan
        • Have primary responsibility, in partnership with the CDO, for the execution of the development strategy with a long-term relationship-account management approach
        • Ensure the development team continues to advance through management of the CRM and other business processes
        • Monitor all donor information; provide and present statistical analysis to the CDO and leadership staff
        • Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development strategy
        • Support and partner with the CDO, President & CEO and board members on all major fundraising initiatives
        • Serve as a lead fundraiser and representative for Junior Achievement in the foundation and philanthropic community across Greater Washington
        • Serve in partnership with the CDO as a driver for JA board/outside fundraising committees, as necessary
        • Build and maintain comprehensive relationships with high-level donors and prospects, creating moves management plans related to them, compelling presentations, and comprehensive fundraising proposals
        • In collaboration with the CDO, identify, rate, and assign foundation and individual prospects for cultivation with the JAGW board and executive team influencers
        • Solicit and secure gifts; work in collaboration with the Development team and Director of organization wide event planning on strategy, event execution and donor benefits management/stewardship
        • Collaborate with the CDO and Communications team to produce marketing campaigns and materials to support fundraising efforts -- Oversee prospect lists, prospect research, committee materials and update reports, event registration and seating charts
        • Manage production of cultivation and stewardship events as needed
        • Strategically assess other fundraising activities that may be worthwhile for JA to implement Professional Skills/Abilities
          Required
          • Minimum of 7+ years of managing a development team with demonstrated successful in corporate, foundation and individual fundraising and/or program and high-wealth donor experience; 5+ years in a direct fundraising and managerial function preferred
          • Demonstrated record of success in securing significant monetary commitments from corporations, foundations, and individuals -- Experience with large scale fundraising initiatives, including capital campaigns
          • Knowledge of best practice cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques
          • Experience in event fundraising, stewardship, and execution -- Demonstrated ability in grant and proposal writing at appropriate levels for varied proposal development
          • Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective donors through in person, telephone, and email communication
          • Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices, and procedures for obtaining information about the giving programs of corporations and foundations
          • Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals
          • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and networking skills with large groups and individuals
          • Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances
          • Demonstrated team player with the ability to foster teamwork among Board Members, colleagues, and development staff
          • Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision
          • Commitment to the Junior Achievement mission
          • Knowledge of Microsoft Office is necessary Preferred
            • Knowledge of the DC philanthropic landscape is highly preferred
            • Experience with a donor management system (like Blackbaud products) Education and Experience
              Required
              • A Bachelor's degree Preferred
                • Advanced degree
                • CFRE or other Professional Certifications a plus Work Environment
                  • The position will support the organizations Greater Washington service area, that includes the District of Columbia, Northern Virginia, and the Prince George's, Montgomery and Southern Maryland Communities
                  • Currently the position is fully remote; as of January 18, 2022 JAGW is expected to move to a hybrid schedule
                  • Local travel in the Greater Washington area is required
