Position Overview:The Director of Communications will lead the development and implementation of the internal communications strategy across a single client organization to improve employee engagement and maintain the desired employee experience, consistent with their mission, vision, values, strategy, culture, and identity. This role will provide strategic counsel for and collaborate with senior leaders across the entire client organization to deploy timely communications effectively, using best practices to advance desired organizational goals and priorities.
Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, manage, and assist with internal communications programs and projects on behalf of senior leadership to engage their workforce more effectively.
  • Improve access to current information about initiatives, programs, policies, and materials the client organization is doing with the goal of improving employee awareness, understanding, and ownership of their organization's mission, vision, and priorities.
  • Consult with senior leaders on how to keep the employee population informed on key issues.
  • Ensure the delivery of consistent messages to various employee audience segments to encourage and improve workforce engagement.
  • In support of client goals, analyze and improve existing internal channels for communications such as newsletters, collaboration tools, meeting networks, videos, etc.
  • Draft and assist on advanced writing assignments such as speeches, press releases, statements, announcements, and scripts for senior leadership.
  • Evaluate specific programs and their appropriate success metrics and report regularly on effectiveness of internal communications programs, including listening to employee feedback on internal communications and adjusting plans accordingly.
  • Engage with the workforce and leadership in various ways to understand projects, initiatives, and programs and to gather information and input from the workforce. This may include conducting interviews, leading focus groups, and distributing surveys.
  • Provide graphics and visual design support. This role will prepare, design, and deliver graphics, presentations, one-pagers, and other visual materials for senior leadership review, approval, and discussion.
  • Support the creation, revision, and publication of video messages and audio messages (e.g., voicemails, podcasts) from senior leadership to the workforce. Use various tools and technologies to support the technical coordination of live and recorded town hall video/audio meetings.
  • Develop, update, and maintain webpages using SharePoint online and content management systems (CMS) interfaces and tools (e.g., WordPress, Drupal).
    Qualifications
    • 8 years of experience in the field of communications (both written and oral). Skilled in determining the most appropriate method of delivery for the intended audience and type of communications.
    • Experience completing tasks independently, tracking progress toward completion, providing status updates as requested and working on a variety of tasks simultaneously.
    • Demonstrated experience in generating topics for communication products, identifying reliable sources for information (e.g., subject matter experts, publications), gathering information through interviews and discussion, compiling initial drafts, and coordinating communications projects.
    • Able to clearly communicate complex public information in a variety of formats to a variety of audiences.
    • Experience using Microsoft PowerPoint to design and update presentations; knowledgeable about using Slide Master to create slide styles and templates is desired.
    • Experience providing graphic design support (e.g., Photoshop, Publisher, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva) and creating and modifying graphical communications (e.g., images, graphics, illustrations, banners, logos, templates). Able to convey visual elements using text descriptions and accurately translate text into visual elements. Must be able to supply examples.
    • Experience with Adobe suite of publishing tools (Acrobat, Reader, PDF Maker) to compile, cross-reference, and publish PDF files with tables of contents, hyperlinks, and web-friendly functionality.
    • Experience with Microsoft Word features including Track Changes and Comments.
    • Experience with Microsoft Excel to create, modify, and insert basic charts, tables, and graphs.
    • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) interfaces and tools (e.g., WordPress, Drupal), SharePoint, and web content management best practices.
    • Familiarity leveraging audio/video tools for live and recorded events. Tools may include Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Microsoft Stream, YouTube, and podcast platforms.
    • Experience creating, hosting, recording, and sharing video meetings. Experience creating accessible content supports (e.g., transcripts, captions).
    • MRPT (Moderate Risk Public Trust) Clearance is required for role.
