Through this internship, you will receive robust training in a
diverse range of WRIoperationsduties, including project financial
management, grant and sub-agreement management, development and
fundraising, finance and accounting, and human resources.Operations
teams create the infrastructure that facilitates the success of
WRI's mission and are foundational to WRI being able to achieve
impact. During the firstthreeweeks, you will participate in a
rotationaltrainingcurriculum involving in-depth seminars, guided
learning modules, and assignments that willprovidein-depth insight
into the topics and responsibilitiesencompassing non-profit
management. For the remainingduration of your internship, you will
work directlywith aWRIprogram or center,in alignment with your
interests, to shadow experienced operations staff and support the
completion of typical Project Coordinator assignments that will
allow you to apply your knowledge of WRIs systems and processes in
real-life scenarios.Duringyour direct placement with a team,you
will work onprogrammaticdeliverables,provide ongoing operations
supportandmanageotherspecial projects.Examples
ofpotentialprojectsincludecompleting a Project Management for
DevelopmentProfessionals (PMDPro) training &
certification,compilingfunder financial reports,designinga strategy
to integrate project operations and communications,andforecasting
yourteamsquarterly budget.By the end of theinternship, you will be
equipped with diverse skills and applied knowledge in non-profit
management, financial management, development, and operations.
LearningOutcomes The intern will gain experience in the following
areas: --- Develop foundational knowledgeoffinancial management
including budgeting, expense review, financial reporting, revenue
analysis, and WRI cost structure.--- Learn full cycle grant
andsubagreementmanagement includinginitiating newprime awards,
drafting newsubagreements, reviewing partner reports, and
processing invoices.--- Gain fundraising exposurein areas
ofproposal developmentandopportunity tracking inSalesforce.---
Become familiar with criticalsystems including Salesforce,
Cognos,Deltekand Office 365 Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)---
Exposure to general non-profitoperationsincluding Human Resources,
Information Technology, and organizational
sustainabilitystandards--- Complete a budget forecast through the
following activities:--- Participating in budget review meetingsand
quarterly fiscal reviews--- S upporting budget development and
entry into WRIs financial systems for coming fiscal year---
Updating revenue forecasts and funding opportunity records in
Salesforce--- Registering potential deliverable or operational
risks the team isfacing--- Brainstorming potential mitigation
strategies Internship Qualifications --- University Sponsored: You
must be a student currently enrolled in the School of Public Policy
at the University of Maryland .--- Strong interest in climate
change and sustainability--- Interest in non-profit management and
operations--- Excellent oral and written communications skills---
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of
ateam General Internship Requirements --- Applicants must have
personal health insurance coverage.--- U.S. work authorization is
required for this opportunity. WRI does not sponsor interns for
visas. Compensation --- University Sponsored: Students will receive
compensation from their university program. Durationand Location
--- This is a full-time, 12-week summer internship with start date
options of June 1 or June 21, 2021 based on the students
availability and need for the project.--- This is a remote-based
internship with the option to work out of the Washington D.C.
office once it reopens.--- WRI will provide a laptop for the
