SM Optum's social responsibility program is inviting applications for Manager, Equity Strategy: Employees, Communities, and Partners, a role that is critical to the organization. The person in this position will lead service delivery of our programs (including our pro bono consulting program and a suite of culture and employee engagement initiatives), oversee equity strategy, project operations and management, community convenings, and cohort learning programs; and implement organizational strategic communications, team management, marketing, and partner engagement. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit, the ability to work across sectors and industries, the ability to think expansively and creatively in evolving strategic approach, exhibit enthusiasm in promoting and institutionalizing systemic change, and bring a fierce commitment to equity. The Program Manager role offers a unique opportunity to be a change agent within the private sector. This full-time position will lead:

  • Community engagement and partnership: identifying opportunities to bring to bear Optum's assets, capabilities, and expertise in service of grassroots organizations advancing equity across the United States and internationally.
  • Managing relationships: working cross-functionally with employees and external partners to ensure alignment on values, goals, and deliverables while leading with respect, humility, and a willingness to pivot and learn.
  • Operations and day-to-day program and project management: ensuring program alignment and managing to success, with support from the broader social responsibility team
  • Communications and marketing: creating and sharing opportunities; demonstrating program impact internally and externally This position can be located anywhere in the United States, with a preference for the Minneapolis-St. Paul or Washington D.C. areas Primary Responsibilities: Program Leadership and Management:
    • Manage the pro-bono consulting program and a suite of employee engagement programs focused on advancing equity through self-study, service learning, and community engagement.
    • Design and lead evaluation of program impact internally and externally. Stakeholder Engagement:
      • Partner with the broader social responsibility team to ideate on ways to drive equity across the organization through business initiatives, innovate and uncommon collaboration, and partnerships.
      • Ensure stakeholders are updated on the progress of social responsibility programs and focus areas.
      • Form and cultivate relationships with key strategic partners. Thought Leadership:
        • Stay informed of latest research, news, and best practices around equity, social responsibility, and opportunities for Optum to drive systemic change across the health system through internal changes, funding, or in collaboration with external parties. Communications and Evaluation:
          • Develop opportunities to tell stories of impact through staff evolution on the topic of equity, program outcomes, and community change. You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Required Qualifications:
            • Experience leading equity initiatives addressing disparities and/or social determinants of health
            • Experience with problem solving resulting in significant business impact and external partner satisfaction
            • Able to comfortably interact with all levels of staff, from interns to executives, treating everyone equally and with respect
            • Ability to listen and learn, receive and provide feedback
            • Experience with relationship development, comfortable doing initial outreach and finding connection points
            • Experience with community engagement
            • Proficient in working with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

              • Experience influencing and managing teams (volunteer management a plus)
              • Experience developing marketing, communications, and storytelling campaigns a plus
              • Experience with social entrepreneurship, or working across sectors
              • Conflict resolution skills and experience engaging in courageous conversations
