Job Description:
The National Young Farmers Coalition seeks a campaigner with
proven experience in legislative advocacy and movement-building,
deep and informed perspectives on agricultural policy, and
demonstrated commitment to racial equity to join our executive team
as the Campaigns Managing Director.The Campaigns Managing Director
will lead strategic direction and implementation of our policy,
campaigns and organizing work to build long-term power and advance
our organization's vision for a bold and equitable transformation
in agriculture. As a member of the executive team, they will
participate in setting organizational strategy, shaping our
organizational business model, and delivering on fundraising
strategy that will resource our advocacy efforts. They will manage
a team of senior-level staff responsible for state and federal
policy as well as issue-specific campaigns. The Campaigns Managing
Director will ideally be based in Washington, DC, although remote
work is possible for an exceptional candidate.As a policy advocacy
organization, the Coalition is primarily focused on designing,
implementing, and cultivating young farmer leadership to win
legislative campaigns-pairing grassroots action with grasstops
government relations; working in Coalition with partners; and
training young farmers to be leaders in this movement. Our work is
rooted in racial equity, and this role necessitates a sophisticated
racial equity analysis and proven track record of centering those
most marginalized from policy processes in defining and achieving
solutions. Our campaign goals for the next three years include
winning bold reform in the next farm bill, making farmland access
equitable, demanding climate action, holding USDA accountable to
serving all farmers, showing up for immigration justice, and
removing the barrier of student loan debt.The National Young
Farmers Coalition (Young Farmers) represents, mobilizes, and
engages young farmers to ensure their success. Since our founding
in 2010, we have grown our grassroots network to over 200,000
individuals and partner organizations. We give young farmers tools
to become leaders in their communities, building an effective
political voice at the local, state, and federal level. Together,
we tackle the most critical structural and economic barriers that
prevent motivated young people from starting and growing successful
farm businesses-including access to affordable farmland, student
debt, climate change, healthcare, racial inequities, and more. We
have won historic investments in beginning farmer training,
outreach to farmers of color, farmland conservation, and accessible
COVID relief.The National Young Farmers Coalition is an equal

hear from you!ResponsibilitiesProject & Program Strategy (30%)*
Oversee the development and implementation of campaign strategies
to advance young farmer priorities at the state and federal level.*
Ensure state and federal legislative campaigns are well integrated,
accounting for the unique goals and contexts of each, to achieve
maximum organizational impact.* Provide strategic direction to our
organizing and chapter work, harnessing the power of our 47
chapters in 28 states, affinity groups, and at-large members to
achieve our policy goals.* Facilitate coordination between campaign
teams and the other Young Farmers programs including
Communications, Development, and Business Services.* Serve as a
member of the Executive Team, setting organization-wide strategy
and goals, and driving organizational commitments to data-based and
accountable decision-making.* Serve as a model and mentor to others
on integrating racial equity into our work.Staff Management (30%)*
Supervise Federal Policy Director, State Policy Campaigns Director,
Organizing & Advocacy Director, and Land Campaign Director to fully
build out their strategies, their teams, their fundraising, and to
execute their campaign plans to the fullest.* Deliver high-level
project management in collaboration with Program Directors, while
instituting ongoing campaign goal-setting, tracking, and evaluation
systems to continually measure and improve our impact.* Foster a
culture of innovation and learning, leading the development of
resources and trainings for policy and organizing staff to increase
their effectiveness.* Contribute to organizational discussions
about how to recruit, retain, support, and nurture our talented
staff.Stakeholder Engagement (15%)* Serve as an organizational
spokesperson to the press and lawmakers* Build and participate in
multi-racial coalitions to move forward shared policy priorities*
Develop deep and collaborative partnerships with BIPOC-led
organizations and demonstrate commitment to resource-sharing.*
Create opportunities for farmer leadership and visibility across
the Coalition.Development (20%)* Grow our campaigns team by
executing on development plans and generating new ideas for
increasing resources to support our advocacy goals.* Steward major
donors and foundation contacts to deliver multi-program revenues of
+$500k annually.Budget Management (5%)* Develop annual budget for
policy, campaigns, and organizing; hold responsibility for changes
to budget, make informed long-term decisions for their programs.*
Drive adoption of organizational financial processes across their
team.AttributesThe ideal candidate will demonstrate the following

long-term strategies and know how to improvise when a moment

work. They keep conversations active with farming communities and
also draw in new approaches from other movements.* Operating with a
sophisticated racial equity analysis: They are committed to
building power for those most marginalized from policy processes.
They are at minimum culturally sensitive and ideally actively
engaged in conversations and actions that further racial equity and
liberation. They establish processes to ensure accountability to
the communities they serve and represent.* Team Leader:--Competent
in managing for equity & inclusion; builds a team of
high-performing staff members; structures jobs so that staff
members are best supported to leverage their talents and succeed;
develops and motivates staff members to excel in new leadership
opportunities; creates opportunities for staff to learn and support
each other; and acts from the perspective of an organizational
leader.* Strong project manager:--Is able to oversee and structure
complex projects and ensure that a quality end product is delivered
on or ahead of schedule.* Entrepreneur: Is excited and able to
steward existing donors and seek out new sources of revenue in
service to growing our Coalition and its capacity.* Highly
organized--and focused with superior follow-through and attention
to detail.Preferred Experience:* 10+ years of relevant experience*
Experience directing legislative campaigns* Experience managing
diverse teams to achieve results* Experience with federal policy in
Washington, DC (agricultural policy preferred)* Familiarity with
digital campaigning and online tools* Experience building
relationships of trust with communities of colorThe ideal candidate
may also have:* Experience with state legislative campaigns*
Experience with electoral politics* Experience working on a farm or
ranch and/or be rooted in the agricultural communitySchedule and
Compensation* Full-time schedule, typically 9am-5pm Monday through
Friday.* $84,000 - $96,000, in accordance with our
