Director - Opinion Research, Communications & Public Affairs PhRMA Washington, DC Overview Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) is seeking a Director for its Public Affairs team to support message testing, paid advertising measurement and advocacy polling for efforts at the state, national and international levels. The Director will be part of a fast-paced and growing team that conducts highly-visible opinion research and measurement for paid and earned campaigns at the state, federal and international levels. This position is both internally and externally facing. The Director will work closely with member company staff, PhRMA executives and other key stakeholders on strategy and execution of the association's public polling, campaign measurement and message testing for multiple ongoing advocacy campaigns. Responsibilities/Qualifications The Director will:

• Develop and manage polling and opinion research studies that support PhRMA's advocacy messaging and campaign evaluation;
• Design and evaluate research instruments, including public polls, focus groups, online polling and dial testing;
• Support a comprehensive public opinion research strategy and execute across a wide variety of issues and audiences;
• Coordinate within the team to assess issue-specific research needs and develop tactical plan to execute research;
• Collaborate with advocacy teams to develop and lead campaigns and public opinion research programs to support PhRMA's advocacy priorities;
• Direct and oversee quantitative and qualitative data analysis, compile results into audience appropriate materials and present results to internal and external stakeholders;
• Develop and manage project deliverables, schedules, budget, consultants and staffing plans ensuring resources are used effectively and efficiently;
• Support and help broaden the polling/measurement team's public and social strategy, including public presentations/conferences, public polling and social media strategy;
• Contribute to Communications & Public Affairs overall strategy. Key Success Factors PhRMA seeks a creative and collaborative leader who is passionate about access to medicines and addressing the healthcare challenges we face today. Key success factors for this role include:
  • A campaign mentality. Adaptable, a creative problem solver, able to prioritize/shift gears quickly and be comfortable in a high-pressure environment.
  • An ability to identify and deliver--implications--of research findings-not just data and results.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and diplomacy skills.
  • Deep experience managing public opinion research initiatives across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • An eye for compelling visual display and an ability to convert complicated research results into usable reports.
  • Demonstrated leadership, sound judgement, vision and integrity.
  • Sound understanding of the political, regulatory and advocacy environment-ideally in health care.
  • Experience working for a political/campaign polling firm is a plus. Experience on Capitol Hill is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Public Affairs or related field;
  • 3-6 years--of combined experience in public opinion research, political campaigns, issue advocacy, public affairs and/or media relations;
  • A "can do" attitude and bias for action.
  • Ability to balance the needs of various internal and external parties with flexibility and a steady temperament;
