Altarum is seeking a Vice President of Strategy to join the Office of the Chief Operating Officer. The position will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and support organization-wide strategic planning and execution in close collaboration with the COO, VP of Operations, VP of Population Health, and VP of Connected Health. This is a collegial environment which seeks to transform healthcare in a meaningful way. Strategy development has become a continuous, not periodic, endeavor. Successful execution of organizational strategy, therefore, is an agile process that depends on rapid and effective decision making. The VP of Strategy role is focused on developing and critiquing strategy; helping to focus the organization on executing today while planning for tomorrow; communicating and prioritizing objectives; and assessing progress. The VP of Strategy fosters organizational change in a dynamic competitive environment. A strategy that is clear one day can become ambiguous the next and alignment can falter if it is not continually reinforced. The VP of Strategy helps to ensure that the members of the leadership team come to agreement on strategic priorities and that those decisions aren't watered down or ignored as they are translated throughout the organization. Responsibilities

  • Drive the design, planning, execution, and integration of the Altarum's business strategies to support growth and mission impact. These range from state expansion strategies for legacy offerings to 'go-to-market' plans for new solutions.
  • Formalize Altarum's strategic-planning process and work collaboratively with leaders across Altarum to ensure strategic business plans are successfully executed and objectives met on time.
  • Identify innovative solutions and strategies to gain visibility and opportunities for Altarum in the marketplace.
  • Develop and support strategic partnerships to drive innovation, impact, and new business opportunities.
  • Support relationship development efforts with government, philanthropic and commercial funders.
  • Inform investment decisions and support strategic assessment of potential acquisitions.
  • Contribute to fostering a results-oriented culture, with greater transparency and accountability for those directly carrying out Altarum's strategy.
  • Assess progress on strategic objectives and communicate that progress to fellow executives and members of the board.
  • Engender an organization-wide commitment to strategic clarity. The successful candidate will refine and clarify organizational strategy-for themselves and for each business unit and function, ensuring that all employees understand the details of an evolving strategic plan and how their work connects to corporate goals. Qualifications
    • Seasoned executive with a strong strategy orientation who has led major initiatives or businesses and worn many operating hats in healthcare, consulting and/or government contracting environments.
    • Graduate degree in health policy, public health, health economics, or a related field and 10+ years of professional experience.
    • Knowledge of federal health policy, as well as experience with state and federal health agencies, preferred.
    • Remarkable organizational skills, research skills, and an ability to drive decisions, inquire about barriers, challenge thinking, and follow-through to accelerate execution.
    • Very strong verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong attention to detail, a quick learner, internally motivated to meet and exceed expectations, an active problem solver who works well with others, both in and outside the organization.
    • Strong broad-based business acumen with ability to identify and plan for long-term strategic growth.
    • Proven analysis skills, resourcefulness, decisiveness, and the ability to maintain confidence under pressure.
    • Demonstrated ability to think pragmatically and theoretically to drive execution of strategic concepts.
    • Competitive analysis expertise to transform findings into easily translatable and visual narratives that clearly articulate strategy and communicate value propositions and tangible next steps to the board, executives, and key members of leadership.
