Our inaugural program will feature The Bush School of Government and Public Service, with plans for participation by other schools and colleges down the road.The Director of Communications, DC, is responsible for supporting the mission of the Bush School of Government and Public Service through effective communications planning, marketing, internal and external public relations, publications, and electronic communications. In cooperation with the Bush School Director of Communication and External Relations, TAMU, this position includes responsibility for the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive communication program; enhancement of the DC School's image and support for it; and the provision of expertise and support to related activities in student and faculty recruitment, event and conference planning, web communications, social media, and career services.The selected candidate will subscribe to and support our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability (IDEA) as stated above. Departments will provide the procedures to be followed at each step of the recruiting process.Required Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experienceTen years of related experience in communications experienceRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applicationsAbility to multi-task and work cooperatively with othersStrategic communications planning and implementation; marketing; strong writing, editing, interpersonal and analytical skillsExperience with word processing, presentation software, web-based communications, publications and printing processesPreferred Education and Experience:Master degree in appropriate fieldSupervisory experiencePreferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of academic programs and public service employmentSkills in marketing research and the measurement of communication effectivenessResponsibilities:Publications -Direct the creation of all print and electronic publications, and serve as the primary content editor of publications and communications pieces in order to ensure consistency in content brand identity, language, and tone. Responsible for the design, production, and creation of publications including, but not limited to, school advertisements, brochures, view-books, annual reports, announcements, newsletters, and specialized/targeted publications. Review and approve layout and design of printed materials and design plans for electronic communications. Responsible for oversight of DC website content.Public Relations -Develop and maintain relations internally and externally to establish credibility, visibility, and goodwill for the School; assist in event planning and provide communications advancement services, including those supportive of development, for student and faculty recruitment and career services; assist faculty and staff with specific publicity needs and projects; develop and place advertisements in selected external publications; oversee production of advertising specialties and logo-wear for the School; serve as a resource to others in the School.Media Relations -Develop and maintain contact with local, state, national, and international media; produce releases and media advisories for School events; produce announcements of awards, scholarships, and other special activities; oversee story production; solicit and promote story ideas to targeted media; promote and disseminate faculty research and awards; work with media to provide faculty experts for articles and broadcasts. Develop and implement a strategic social media strategy for the DC teaching site.Planning -Responsible for creating, developing, implementing, and evaluating a strategic marketing and communications plan for the DC teaching site. Required to anticipate needs from a proactive perspective.Marketing Research -Conduct or oversee marketing research projects and assist various School operation areas in developing marketing strategies for programs, services, and student involvement; design and propose organizational mechanisms for providing, evaluating, and incorporating marketing research data into the School strategic plans and ongoing promotional efforts; identify mechanisms for promoting School programs and services to prospective students and other populations served by the School, and work with the appropriate staff members to ensure the effective use of this information; evaluate promotional efforts regarding the School as a whole as well as specific programs and services, and work with the appropriate staff members to involve them in the processes to ensure the effective use of this information.Administration -Perform administrative duties appropriate to this position; represent the School at appropriate meetings; attend and participate in senior staff meetings; develop budgets for School communication efforts, and work within available resources to achieve goals of the School s strategic communications plan; support conferences, event activities, and web-based communications; work closely with School staff who direct programs, and provide core administrative support as well as those within the larger university communications community.Special Projects and Events -Develop, write, and edit presentations for School administrators and dignitaries during special events/projects. Work with special guests on communications projects.
