United States Navy Memorial FoundationPosition Description -- Vice PresidentTitle:--Vice President Supervisor's Title:--President and Chief Executive OfficerThe United States Navy Memorial Foundation:As a Navy embassy, the US Navy Memorial tells the stories of the men and women of the sea services, represented by the iconic Lone Sailor, through thought provoking programs, unforgettable events, and immersive exhibit experiences that are unique and easily accessible in our nation's capital and beyond.--The Navy Memorial Foundation's (Foundation) vision is "to be a lifelong connection for the men and women of the sea services and a gateway for the public, through understanding and engagement, to foster a greater appreciation for their service," created by a team that works in an "employee owned environment."The mission of the Foundation is "to Honor, Recognize and Celebrate the men and women of the Sea Services, past, present and future, and to Inform the public about their service."--With a $5M+ annual budget, the Foundation completes our mission with a Visitor Center, 230-person Arleigh Burke Theater, Navy Log, Ship's Store and office spaces located adjacent to the United States Navy Memorial (Plaza).--Nature of the Position:--The Vice President is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Foundation, manages execution of major projects, supervises all elements of the Foundation except Development and Finance, reports directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and acts on behalf of the President and CEO in his/her absence.--Duties and Responsibilities:------------------Using our Strategic Planning Process, propose comprehensive one and three-year goals for performance and growth of the Foundation------------------In collaboration with the Director of Finance, propose and execute annual budget------------------Manage monthly, mission-metrics review process, evaluating status of goal achievement; evaluate performance by analyzing and interpreting mission and financial metrics------------------Lead employees in setting and achieving annual goals by providing quarterly feedback and encouraging maximum performance, dedication, and professional growth------------------Lead Human Resources function------------------Design, propose to the President & CEO, and execute approved policies, plans and procedures that continue to improve daily operations of the Foundation------------------Manage the Direct Mail program------------------Manage Information Technology------------------Manage relationships with partners/vendors including the U.S. Navy and the National Park Service------------------Lead coordination for major fundraising events including the Lone Sailor Awards Dinner, Delbert D. Black Leadership Award Dinner and several off-site events around the country------------------Supervise management of other events including Wreath Layings, Receptions, Bridge Wing Chats, Fantail Breakfasts, Movies on the Memorial and Special Events------------------Supervise management of Ship's Store, website, social media, volunteer program and exhibit plan------------------Support Board engagement both through meeting cycle and individual requestsPolicy Formulation and Decision Authority------------------Propose, modify as needed, and implement company policies that promote a culture that enables the Foundation to achieve goals and accomplish its mission efficiently and effectively------------------Manage Standard Operating Procedures and the Employee Policy Manual.--Provide guidance and direction to the staff (approximately 14 full time team members and between 10 and 14 (seasonal) part-time team members,) as well as a growing group of volunteers, in the conduct of their jobs to assure compliance with the by-laws, agreements, contracts and guidelines of the Foundation------------------Oversee all business affairs of the Foundation that involve the Plaza and the Visitor CenterBudgetary Responsibilities Manage the Foundation's Strategic Planning ProcessIn collaboration with the Director of Finance, supervise budget development at department head level and propose Foundation's annual budgetManage to budgetMeasures of PerformanceWork collaboratively with the TEAM.--Stay in sync with the Directors and the President & CEODevelop Foundation goals in a collaborative style and propose to the President & CEOAchieve the Foundation's annual goalsSuccessfully execute the budgetExecute the policies of the Foundation and the vision of the President & CEOExecute successful major eventsExpand the impact of the FoundationKey QualificationsAs a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values of the Foundation and be driven by its mission. We are seeking a candidate that has proven experience in leading an organization and a demonstrated ability to both lead and build the capabilities of a driven, bright, and diverse team.The successful candidate will most likely have at least ten years of experience effectively managing projects and successfully leading teams.--Experience working with the Navy is essential..----Not-for-profit experience is beneficial.----This is an organization driven by the values of its people, so experience in managing a "values-driven" organization will be highly prized.--Additional requirements are:------------------Navy - A strong understanding of the Navy and an inherent appreciation for the mission of the Foundation------------------Leading TEAMs - An exceptional capacity for hands-on managing and leading people; a team builder who has experience in scaling up organizations; capacity to enforce accountability, develop and empower top-notch leaders from the bottom up, cultivate entrepreneurship, and learn the strengths and weaknesses of the team so as to put people in a position to succeed------------------Results -- Proven track record of effectively spearheading and leading projects, exceeding goals and a bottom-line orientation; evidence of the ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment; high level of business acumen including successful P&L management; the ability to balance the delivery of quality programs against the realities of a budget; problem solving, project management, and creative resourcefulness------------------Event Management - Excels at planning and executing small and major fund-raising and mission-focused events------------------Action Oriented-Enjoys working hard and looks for challenges; able to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available------------------General Management-an understanding of finance, information systems, and human resources; experience with business functions, including strategic development and planning, budgeting, business analysis and marketing------------------Solid educational background-undergraduate degree required; MBA or similar advanced degree highly desiredCompensationThis is an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated professional to assume a pivotal role in the evolution of a fast-growing, highly respected organization.
