Scope:

Provide leadership on all March of Dimes health equity initiatives. Provide subject matter expertise to MOD national office, regions, states and markets on health equity and implicit bias. Serve as national MOD representative on health equity and policy for external stakeholders, including government officials, partners and volunteers. Collaborate with the Chief People Officer on organization s diversity, inclusion and equity strategy. Develop legislation to address health equity for adoption into Federal, state and local laws.

Position Responsibilities

Direction and Subject Matter Expertise:

* Develop and execute strategic initiatives to advance maternal and birth equity that align with the MOD goals and strategic plan

* Provides structure and oversight around organizational efforts to achieve equity in birth and maternal health outcomes.

* Work with March of Dimes management staff to meet all administrative requirements of current projects with health equity related strategies or goals (e.g.: CDC funded Collaborative)

* Help to build equity as a core competency within the organization by actively promoting integration of equity principles across departments.

* Review current literature and advises leadership on updated science or emerging issues to advance equity

* Participate in advocacy efforts to promote birth and maternal health equity nationally

Technical Assistance and Subject Matter Expertise:

* Ensure the delivery of health equity subject matter expert technical assistance to MOD staff in the National and Field Offices on matters relating to health equity.

* Contribute to and prepare presentations, issues briefs, position statements and other written materials pertinent to health equity

* Provide subject matter content on health equity to internal workgroups or groups where MOD needs representation.

* Collaborate with internal communications team and others on internal or external communications related to women s health issues.

* Support equity-informed data and evaluation projects

* Provide subject matter expertise to the Mom and Baby Network s (Collaborative) health equity efforts.

Implicit Bias Training:

* Serve as national health equity leader and implementer of implicit bias program(s)

* Support curriculum development of implicit bias training program

* Facilitate live and virtual implicit bias trainings with healthcare provider and MCH professional audiences, including community based organizations and students

* Conduct train-the-trainer sessions for staff to facilitate implicit bias training

* Support fundraising and marketing strategy to productize implicit bias training

Policy Development:

* Serve as a SME on health equity before Federal and state policy makers and work with MOD government affairs and policy staff and researchers to develop legislation and make changes in regulations to reduce health inequities and improve maternal and child health outcomes.

* Develop and maintain strong relationships with Federal and D.C. policymakers

.Health Equity Communications:

* Generate and provide health equity related stories to surface equity related news

* Support development of talking points for media interviews and content for op/eds

* Support national equity initiatives and implementation of local collaborative work to achieve equity

* Work with marketing and communications staff to fulfil internal requirements regarding website maintenance, media placements, newsletters, social media and development of new materials

Represent MOD with External Partners:

* Liaison with other organizations working on birth and maternal health equity initiatives

* Leverage opportunities to increase visibility of MOD efforts to achieve health equity and influence policy change and program adoptions toward achieving equity for moms and babies

* Upon request, staff and/or convene MOD led committees, workgroups, coalitions, etc to support women s health issues.

Revenue Development:

* Support the overall growth goals of the organization by providing content expertise needed for funding proposals and helping to write proposals as needed.

* Seeks and helps to secure funding for other MOD equity initiatives

Learning and Professional Development:

* Complete required training as outlined by Human Resources throughout the year; participate in professional education conferences/meetings to support and maintain professional content; and leverage opportunities for enhanced leadership and growth.

Other duties as assigned:

* Complete special projects as requested and in required timeframes



Position Qualifications

* 8-10 years experience

* Master's degree

* General knowledge of principles of social determinants of health, health equity, and racism, sexism, classism

* Knowledge of systems change and policy needs of organizations engaged in women s and infant health, prevention of maternal mortality, premature birth, infant mortality, NAS

* Community and stakeholder engagement experience

* Demonstrated skill in cultural effectiveness, with understanding of culturally and linguistically appropriate services; ability to interact effectively with diverse and inclusive staff and volunteers

* Demonstrated work experience in or with communities of color or other underserved populations

* Strong strategic planning and facilitation skills, including conflict and group management

* Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer skills

* Highly motivated with ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office

* Ability to maintain positive, productive and respectful relationships w/peers, volunteers and other internal and external partners

* Ability to lead multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural and/or multi-sector collaborations to accomplish shared goals and implement strategies

* Ability to guide interventions and education projects, teams and work groups, including long and short-term planning and establishing objectives/priorities

* Ability to balance competing needs and interests to move projects forward; and meet deadlines

* Ability to acquire new knowledge quickly to manage constantly emerging scientific advancements related to health equity and maternal/child health

* Ability to secure funding to support program work
